Unn Sug Election Requirements: Buhari Certificate Saga Wrong Or Right? by latino2swt(m): 10:42am On Jan 28, 2015
Having lifted the years-long ban on students unionism in the two campuses(Nsukka and Enugu) last year, the University of Nigeria is set to conduct her second Students Union Govt(SUG) executive election since the ban was lifted. The executives election which is going to hold tomorrow being the 29th day of January is expected to bring out real gentlemen that would oversee the effective running of the union throughout the current(2014/2015) session. Like Jonathan and Buhari of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Presidential election, the presidential position of the SUG-UNN 2014/2015 is a two man affair- Nwancha Precious and Eze Stanley who are the incumbent Speaker, house of representatives and General Secretary respectively with the other two aspirants being mere formality.
For the record, election into house of representatives(for departments) and senate(for faculties) were held yesterday while today is slated for manifesto and election debates against tomorrow's executive elections.

That being said, here comes the main gist- aspirants' eligibility to stand for the election, what the University of Nigeria Election Committe calls 'minimum requirement'.
Some of the requirements are
1. A candidate for any position must be in atleast in his/her second year or atleast third year(for the post of a president).
2. Candidates must submit evidence of nomination from not less than six recognized teaching staff of the institution.
3. Candidates must be cleared with the University security.
4. Candidates must get official identification from their various H.O.D
5. CANDIDATES MUST HAVE A MINIMUM CGPA OF 3.50.
6. Candidates must submit their proof of CGPA duly signed by his/her staff adviser and H.O.D, school fee receipts, admission letter among others documents with the application form.

For the post of the president, not less than ten(10) students picked the application form but is only four that were declared qualified to contest. Others were disqualified for what the UNECO called low CGPA, suspiscious stamp, wrong certification, improper nomination, missing documents etc.

And one would be right to ask; is CGPA really necessary? Must you have a CGPA of 3.50 before you be a good leader? Why can't they take candidates matric number and get the rest informations themselves? Why all the stress?

As a neutral follower of Buhari's certificate saga,

WERE SOME NIGERIANS RIGHT TO ASK BUHARI TO SHOW THE COUNTRY HIS CERTIFICATE?
