7-Igbo States Under Ohaneze,/Afenifere Endorse Jonathan For Re-Election

The Igbo umbrella body, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday in Awka, Anambra State, endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for the presidential election in February.
Speaking to journalists, president of Ohanaeze in the state, who is also the chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo State Presidents Forum, Elder Chris Eluemunoh, said the seven presidents-general of the seven states that make up the Igbo nation which include Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Rivers and Delta, resolved to endorse Jonathan “because of the need to implement the national conference recommendations among other things.”
A communiqué signed by the seven presidents-general, said, “since the All Progressive Congress (APC) opted out of the conference, it means that the initiator, President Jonathan would be voted to implement it.”
It added: “Considering the realities of the forthcoming 2015 general elections, Ohanaeze Ndigbo State Presidents Forum has objectively made a critical assessment of the scenario and our findings revealed that implementation of the just concluded National Conference resolutions is necessary for the sake of equity and fairness. In view of the foregoing, the Ohanaeze State Presidents Forum endorses President Jonathan for the presidential election and urges all Igbos in the 36 states of the federation and Abuja to vote massively for him.”
On the alleged crisis rocking the apex Igbo body, the group said Chief Enwo Igariweh and Dr Joe Nworgu remained the president-general and Secretary general of the body.

Afenifere Meets Jonathan, endorses second term bid

The Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, yesterday in Akure endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan’s bid for a second term on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), just as the Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, declared Wednesday as work free for the people of the state.
Afenifere gave the endorsement at a meeting of its members with the president at the residence of the group’s leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti.
Jonathan told reporters as he left the meeting venue that he had gone to pay homage to the leader of Afenifere and Ondo people.
Spokesperson for the group, Yinka Odumakin, told newsmen after the meeting that the Afenifere’s endorsement was predicated on the president’s commitment to implementing the recommendations in the report submitted by the national conference convened in 2014.
“Afenifere supports the president’s re-election bid because he had the courage to convene the national conference and we hope that he will implement the report. The president also expressed the commitment that he would adopt the report within 12 months of his re-assumption of office on May 29,” Odumakin said.
Governor Mimiko, who spoke after the meeting, said: “This is the first time Afenifere will be endorsing any president.”
He added that Afenifere remained a credible and dependable socio-political group in the South West. Members present at the meeting include: Chief Reuben Fasoranti, Chief Olu Falae, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Yinka Odumakin, Segun Arisegun, Chief Sehinde Arogbofa and Senator Iyiola Omisore, among others.
Earlier, the state government announced today a work- free day for the PDP presidential rally in the state.
