This is Lola Shoneyin. Google will tell you all about her. But one thing I can tell you about her here and now is that she is the face of true and uncommon patriotism. I know there may be many like her. The truth about someone character can truly be evaluated by their stand even when they ought to be biased and petty. But at a time when people are demonising Buhari because of what he did as a military Head of State 30 years ago (I.e the documentary) someone who felt the pains of Buhari's rule 30 years ago stands up for him as one who can do the job. Lola Shoneyin is a personification of how to look at the bigger picture when faced with difficult choices. Like the Shoneyins, like the Ajasins. Even Seun Kuti admits GMB is the more rational choice of the two major candidates, and that tells a story. About the man GMB and his mission, and about the ability of humans to rise above pain and hurt to do the right thing. Enjoy. Possibly the worst year of my life was 1984. I was 10 years old and blissfully unaware of the changing face of Nigeria’s political landscape. And a rather unyielding face it was – that of Muhammadu Buhari who had recently overthrown Shehu Shagari, a democratically elected president. For Buhari, this was I highlighted the bold parts to emphasise the key points of her article for those who aren't interested in reading long articles.

Buhari is the devil we know; upright, firm and principled. We can't waste another four years of our national life watching our president empowering thieves and wayward politicians. |

Irony of life. I admire the woman's courage. It is a strong person who would do what she did. I would not do it. My father's jailer could be my sworn enemy; especially if I knew that my father didn't deserve such fate. 1 Like |

LarrySun: True.. Her narrative reveals a mind that's deep and broad. A heart that's well above bitterness and vengefulness despite her dad's ordeal and it's effects on her family. Such capacity for forgiveness and understanding is probably rooted in godliness and wisdom that we might not be able to comprehend. Putting your country above personal consideration |
