I am creating dis topic in part response/ reaction to dis tread: https://www.nairaland.com/2122882/reasons-might-not-having-light

I can also remember dat sum weeks bak I talked abt d light situation in my area on this link: https://www.nairaland.com/2081271/what-happening-benin-electrical-distribution

I will focus on the number 2 reason given on d link my reaction is credited. "BY PASSING"

1. They feel cheated: pple pay 750 naira fixed charge monthly to dia disco n most tyms, d light does not stay for a total of 5days in a month, we ar humans n we must feel d disco is cheatin us, we dia fore try to feel better by not wantin to be cheated n by also fightin d cheating wit cheatin.

2. The hurdle of subscribing: in d big city of warri 4 example, dia ar only 2 places were pple can recharge dia meter (enerhen junction n "nepa" office naval base); d queue is always very long were u can stand for up to 3-4 hours, n de close by 3pm. Now imagine u were a worker n u resume duty by 8am n close by 5pm, how do u meet up? More so, once u started recharging at enerhen junction outlet, u won't be able to go n recharge at naval base n honeslty nobody is tellin/ giving a reason why.

3. Timing: most users of prepaid will agree wit me dat dia units always get finish during d weekends mostly saturdays, I don't knw why it was structured like dat, n again d recharging outlet do not open on weekend, now imagine say I don program "erema" from abraka for d weekend den light no cum de, omo na bypassin sure pass dat weekend.

4. Still on feelin cheated: in warri, most of d troublesome area ar always wit light, ekpan 4 example de scarcely go off, each day I go tru dat road to my house in d evening/ night I see light but on gettin to my quiet neighbourhood n seeing no light, it breaks my heart. ur buddy who stays at ekpan tellin u stories of light wen u knw he does not even have a meter talkless of payin "nepa bill" u feel jealous n cheated once again.

5. Disco agents behaviour/ PRO: de ar always nonchalant n feel lyk naijapolice wen eva u get to dia office to make one complain nor anoda, I tink de need training (lots of it). More so, in d orhunwhurun area of warri, dia av bin no light dia for abt 4months n nobody has cum out to address d public (it is even painfull to note dat u still get to pay d fixed charge even if u don't have light for a year). I tink d discos need to be regularly on air to calm d fears of pple and also to reasuure dem. (Dis is d greatest failure of d discos esp d BEDC)

6. Corruption: imagine a situation were it takes about 1yr to get prepaid meter wen u pay 25k in d bank acct of BEDC n it takes only 2day wen u pay 55k to sum agent. Now if I pay 25k in d account, I still get to pay 10k monthly as "lost charges" till de bring n install my meter. D "kworuption" in dat area need to be addressed.

7. Tendency to steal n cheat: in as much as dia gud pple, dia also bad pple, n sum persons take pleasure in stealing/ cheatin oda pple n d govt. I tink des pple need to be caught n prosecuted accordingly.

I will want to state dat I don't subscribe to bypassing as I see it as "stealing not corruption" grin, howeva, d above reasons ar sum of the reason pple bypass dia meter n it shud be addressed to reduce or eliminate bypassing in general.
