MOST TIMES I WONDER HOW OUR GOVERMENT REASON.....SO WITHOUT BEING TOLD THEY DONT KNOW THAT PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING AND ON THEIR OWN PART THE MOST SIMPLE WAY TO ALLEVIATE THIS PAIN IS TO INCREASE WORKERS SALARY CONSIDERABLY.....U GUYZ IN FG HAVE CONSCIENCE. PLZ STOP THIS PUNISHMENT U ARE GIVING PEOPLE.

And when they increase it by borrowing to pay you while drastically skewing our budgets in favour of our recurrent expenditure, you will be among the ignorant ones screaming how our foreign debt is piling and why should our recurrent expenditure be dangerously higher than capital expenditure. . . .

What we should be demanding for is the drastic reduction of the humongous pecks and allowances our political office holders enjoy . . . .

The vacancy that exists between the head of the TUC leaders is simply astonishing.
1. They accepted the N20k excl PITA all this while when they know fully well this country can sustain a N50k minimum wage or even more. That is why people like Charles Soludo exists.

2. They are all together a generally useless organisation, lacking credibility n relevance.

3. Of all inopportune time to seek audience with the FG and improve the lot of Nigerian workers, 12 days to a general election is their most appropriate time to these...

K. Kaduna rail project was completed in December 2014 & it covers a distance of 180km, & was built at the cost of $500 (N80 billion @ rate of $1=N160, as at then).

The PH monorail by APC gov. Amaechi, covers a distance of 4km, stands abandoned and has cost the state about N180 billion.

The Lagos state light rail project, which covers a distance of 57km was awarded in 2006 by Fashola at a cost of $1.3Billion (N208 billion), & still up in the air despite several billions spent.

So, how do you respond Mr. APC?
Brother everything doesn't have to be about PDP vs APC please. Sometimes we need to know when to strike and when to sheat our swords. This thread is about the Nigerian workers and their minimum wage let's discuss the proprietary of an increased wage and leave politics out because at the end of the day it's not politics that puts food on the table of the workers but the work the do irrespective of party affiliation.

A labour union exists to fight for the rights of its members...and other workers....including you.

So, if you really want to earn salaries that cannot take you home....continue to oppose the TUC call for a better wage for workers.
my brother, let me give you an idea am so against minimum wage.
1,minimum wage is just part of socialism
2,even Americans practice minimum wage, even though they are the flagship of capitalism.
3.the government is broke, recurrent expenditure is more than 70% for the national and most state budget, If they increase it where do you want them to get money to service it?
3.has the TUC/NLC ever gone on strike to bring down the money being paid to ministers, governors, senators, house of assembly memebers,pa's,etc?not they have not.

Claiming more money on Devaluation of the currency is Foolhardy,
That's my opinion.

I understand the plight of labour. However, this looks to me economically not feasible at the moment, irrespective of the govt we have in Aso Rock by may 29th.

Remember, oil price is still around 50/bbl (most state govts are currently owing, even at the current salary scale).

There is also the issue of inflation. Without much growth and production, prices will simply climb back up and negate the impact of the increase. So while you may be better off in Nominal terms, in Real term you are still stagnant if not worse.

Also, please we cannot keep spending all our budget on recurrent expenditure, when there is a huge infrastructural deficit (remember not all of us are employed by govt).

You are one of the very few intelligent people left in this country.

I won't add anything further to this piece because you have echoed the mind of common sense.

Thanks to you too, I appreciate your understanding.
The call for a reviewed minimum wage would have made more sense in a bouyant economy, but in an economy such as ours still heavily dependent on oil it's not the most appropriate thing to do. The fall in the price of oil has meant that the govt struggles to meet her financial obligations including even paying the prevailing #18000, any increment would put more pressure on an already fragile economy. Most state govts haven't paid salaries in month as a result of the shortfall in allocation from Abuja.
