The Alliance Of Democracy (AD) has removed its national chairman, Senator Mojisola Akinfunwa, after 12 years in office, due to his inability to win a single seat at state assemblies or elect any councillors, and for a breach of constitutional law, DailyTrust reports.Moji AkinfenwaThe National Executive Council of the AD announced the removal Akinfunwa via a communique issued after a meeting in Abuja on January 30.The party said the chairman had breached the provisions of Nigeria’s constitution and that of the party.However, a check on the INEC website at the time of writing revealed Akinfunwa as the national chairman of the party.READ ALSO: Meet PDP-APC Gubernatorial CandidatesIn the communique signed by the party’s national secretary and its presidential candidate, Rafiu Salau, the party urged its members nationwide to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), saying that failure to collect the PVCs amounts to abandoning their mandates.The communique reads:“Senator Mojisola Akinfunwa has spent 12 years in office as the national chairman. In that capacity, he endorsed the party’s candidates in 2007, 2011 and 2015 generalelections. The national and party constitutions have automatically removed senator Akinfunwa as the chairman because only two terms of 8 years are allowed.” Akinfunwa was embroiled in a power struggle with Adebisi Akande for the position of national chairman, which lingered untilSeptember 2006 when the ‘Bisi Akande faction merged with other opposition parties to form the Action Congress party.The party is one of 16 political parties urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the February 14 polls.
