Opinion: Prof Jega Is Incompetent To Handle IT Based Electoral Process. by waldigit: 5:18pm On Feb 08, 2015
As a professional in IT field I strongly believe application of data encryption, relational database management, biometric security system and hardware authentication to a massive database application such as electoral system, should be under direct supervision of an experienced IT professional.
It was very surprising to hear funny excuses: such as virus attack, loss of data, devices failure etc, being offered by INEC for their failures in handling this all important national data.
One can recollect the drama at the national assembly when Pro Jega was about to present INEC budget to NA for 2014. A senator presented INEC customized batteries used in the 2011 registration which he said he bought at Niger Republic.
The high level of advancement in relational database management today, will make us object of laughter in face of international community. A non-server based database application- Access, on any modern laptop can handle 2 billion records ! How many are the voters that INEC is finding difficult to handle?
INEC job is IT based, it would be best handled by a competent technocrat. It is not a political job meant for pol scientist.
INEC cannot solve record transfer issue for PVC transfer. A simple software issue that two lines of code can simply resolve. One begins to wander what sort of application sophistication has INEC adopted for Nigeria.
I think it is time we allow people who have something to offer come on board, if we really want this country to change.
