Niger State Governor Babagida Aliyu has written to the state House of Assembly of his trip to Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, directing the Speaker of the Assembly, Adamu Usman, to act as the governor instead of his deputy, Ahmed Ibeto.

There has been a deep animosity between the governor and his deputy following the defection of Ibeto to the All Progressives Congress.

The governor had ordered his deputy out of the Council of State meeting last week, alleging that Ibeto called him(governor) a thief during one of the APC’s campaign rallies.

In the letter, GHNS/13/72, dated February 18, 2015 and signed by the Governor, and addressed to the Speaker, Aliyu said, “I wish to inform Mr. Speaker that I intend to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj between 19th and 26th February, 2015.

“In my absence, the Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly , Rt. Hon. Adamu Usman, will oversee my schedules as the Acting Governor.”

This is really ridiculous. Why should the govornor boycott his deputy and choose the speaker to perform the duties of a govornor when it is clearly written in the laws of the land that the deputy will be charge if the govornor is;

1. indispensable
2. Traveled out of the state
3. not in a sane mind, etc

I don't just understand why this PDP people love undermining the laws of the land. SMH

Well you sound right at the first instant but what do you say to this:

The deputy governor was elected under the pdp and he has defected to the apc. Don't forget the tension that exists between a serving governor and his supposed deputy.

If the governor hands over to the deputy, it so becomes that the apc is now in charge of a pdp state, governor aliyu would never want to hear that. Technically, the governor can argue that after defection the deputy governor is no longer the "elected" deputy governor since he has abandoned the party that elected him. Also remember that this defection issue has not yet been sorted out.Even with the constitution, its not yet very clear if a defector can still hold office. So both the governor and the deputy are right and wrong together. My opinion, let the deputy governor 'pipe low' and remain silent in his own interest. After all, its just a few days to leave the seat.
