Former Reds striker Michael Owen is confident the
midfielder will be on the winning side as he prepares to
face them for the first time, having missed the meeting
earlier in the season between the two sides through
injury.
Owen wrote in his BetVictor predictions column : “The
Saints are clinging on to that final Champions League
spot but Liverpool are unbeaten in their last nine and
expect them to have too much for the hosts.
“Saints (5/2) and Liverpool (4/1) are both in the mix for a
top four finish but it is Liverpool I see being in the
stronger position come Sunday evening.”
Southampton are the season’s surprise package, despite
selling players like Lallana, they are outperforming last
season, while Liverpool have taken a backwards step
from challenging for the title.
The Reds have improved in recent weeks, kicking on and
re-entering the chase for a top four place. The return of
Daniel Sturridge is a huge boost for them and he is
expected to feature this weekend.
Southampton have the fifth best home record in the
Premier League across the whole season, but have on
just two of their last six games at St Mary’s.
Liverpool meanwhile have the sixth best away record and
have won four and lost one of their last six matches on
the road.
