There are list which authenticity can only be tested based on the names present on such list... for instance any list of top universities in Nigeria without names like O.A.U, UNN, ABU, UI automatically rendered the list inconsequential... likewise any list of top teaching hospitals in Nigeria without names like O.A.U.T.H.C, UBTH, UITH automatically rendered such list irrelevant. Hospitals rating has very little to do with the visible structure but the quality of personnel present. How many professor of medicine, Consultants, the number of there registrars. a situation where teaching hospital without a single professor save visiting professor is being rated above hospital like OAUTHC and UBTH is quite comical

The fact that NAUTH and IMSUTH are there in ur list, but there is no UBTH, UITH (Ilorin) and ABUTH shows me that ur list is thrash. Same NAUTH that their consultants are never around? Infact if u visit NAUTH and see their structures, you will be ashamed of yourself over this list. Mind you, NAUTH is just 5 - 10 mins drive away from my home town.

Lol. OP is a joker. LAUTECH TH's ambulance is almost always in Ilorin coz they bring cases they handle (either they don't have specialists for such cases or coz of inadequate equipments) to unilorin TH.
As far as I'm concerned, UITH is one of the best THs in West Africa...They perform laser surgeries (the only in Nigeria as of sm months ago), have at least a prof in almost all clinical subspecialties (up to 7 in internal medicine and 8 in paediatrics..even hv profs in depts like ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, plastic surgery, neurosurgery etc where consultants are rare)

Well, the writer of d article is a blogger and Nigerian bloggers are known for no research at all, so their lists are usually neither credible nor sensible.

Good to know.
Slightly away from the topic, there are some issues someone raised in the health section about the way things are done in most of our public hospitals.

One of them is the long processes one goes through before getting medical attention. Someone could be brought in to the hospital in an emergency situation and instead of being attended to quickly, most times the relatives are asked to first of all open a folder (and this usually takes some time) and this delay can make the patient's condition more critical.

Another is the case of multiple prescriptions by different doctors for the same patient. Dr A's treatment plan will be different from Dr B's. One doctor sees the patient in the morning and writes a prescription, another comes in few hours later and writes something else when the patient has not even completed the dose of the ones earlier written. The patient usually bears the cost of buying these drugs some of which he may not need eventually. Needless to say the health implications of overloading a patient's system with too many drugs.

(Please let no one take this personal)

It would be good if these issues are looked into so that the patient who is at the center of health care delivery can get better and quality service.

That is not a problem. It is standard practice. Sometimes, different medical teams attend to the same patient. For instance, if a patient with a cardiovascular disorder is in an accident and breaks a bone, he would have an orthopedic team and a cardiology team attending to him. If his bladder was compromised in the process, he would have a urology team attending to him too. If he hit his head had, and has seizures, a neurology team will equally visit him. Each team would prescribe as they deem neccesary. The cost of treatment is a major factor doctors consider. Thats a teaching hospital for you.
