PDP Chieftain Wants Jonathan To Appoint New INEC Chairman by unuane1(m): 7:55am On Mar 01, 2015 |
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dennis Adikwuru, has said that for free and fair elections to be conducted next month and April, there is need for President Goodluck Jonathan to appoint a new chairman for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Adikwuru, a former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, before he defected to PDP, maintained that the present INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega, “has, from his actions and inactions, demonstrated that Nigeria will be thrown into a serious crisis if he conducts the 2015 general elections”. In a statement made available to Sunday Independent in Lagos at the weekend, Adikwuru traced Jega’s actions to the voter registration, when he allegedly deployed more logistics and personnel to the North, which according to him, boosted the northern voter strength. In contrast, Adikwuru, who is one of Team Leaders for the PDP governorship candidate in Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, in Aboh Mbaise, said, “Jega withdrew and restricted logistics and personnel to the wards in the south as against the polling units in the north and today, we have the north taking undue advantage over the south”. Adikwuru stressed that the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) had been concluded in the North far ahead of the South where, according to him, only about 70 per cent distribution has been achieved in the South. He alleged INEC staff deployed to the North for the distribution of the PVCs ended up dumping the cards at designated leaders’ houses in the North, while they made it difficult for southerners to collect their cards up till this moment. On the use of card reader machines in the coming elections, Adikwuru said Jega cannot be experimenting with the card readers in such crucial elections, alleging that the card readers are Jega’s master plan to cause confusion in the elections. He challenged Jega to tell Nigerians which network provider will power the card readers “at this time when poor network rules the urban centres, while the rural communities which have higher voter concentration, have no service at all’. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2015/03/pdp-chieftain-wants-jonathan-appoint-new-inec-chairman/ |
