At least 10,000 members of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, from five local
government areas of Daura Emirate in Katsina
State have defected to the All Progressives
Change, APC.
The decampees were from Daura, Baure,
Sandamu, Maiadua and Zango local government
areas.
Receiving the decampees at a grand reception
organised in their honour in Daura, APC’s acting
Chairman in the state, Alhaji Abdulkadir Nasir,
said the decision of the decampees to join the
APC was a sign of victory to the party in the
state.
According to Nasir, the decampees made a wise
decision for joining APC ”because PDP is now
losing grounds and has nothing to offer to
Nigerians”.
He also assured both old and new members of
the party equal treatment and advised the new
entrants to feel at home in the party.
Speaking earlier, the Spokesman of the
decampees, who is also the immediate past
Commissioner for Health in state, Ahaji Aminu
Jamo, said they decided to dump PDP and join
APC to “rescue Nigeria from its present
predicament.”
He accused PDP of lacking focus, quality
leadership and stressed the need for change to
move Nigeria forward.
Jamo called on Nigerians to vote massively for
the APC Presidential Candidate, Maj.-Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as ”an
honest and credible candidate”.
In his remarks, the APC Governorship Candidate
in the state, Alhaji Aminu Masari, assured the
people of the state that he would not betray
them, if elected into office.
He also pledged to transform Katsina State
within six months of his tenure, if elected.
