Buhari ‘running Away’ From Debate With Jonathan – Presidency by zyzxx(m): 4:19pm On Mar 08, 2015
The Presidency has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) of avoiding a debate with his Peoples Democratic Party counterpart and incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Presidency alleged that Buhari and his campaign organisation had rebuffed all entreaties to get the former head of state to debate with President Jonathan.
The Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, made the allegation in a piece entitled ‘We challenge Buhari to a debate’.
Abati said, “The man to blame for this denial is General Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress. Getting him to debate the incumbent, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has been an uphill task.
“To say that the man is scared, practically running away from an opportunity to debate his ideas against the incumbent’s, is to be charitable. He doesn’t want it. Every effort to get him to the podium has been rebuffed by him and his handlers”.
He added that while Jonathan accepted invitations to two presidential debates before the elections were rescheduled, “Buhari was not interested” in any of them.
The presidential spokesperson noted that every Nigerian would love to see the PDP and APC presidential candidates in a debate, being the main contenders in the election. According to him, that would be good for our democracy.
The Director, Media and Publicity of the APCPCO, Mr. Garba Shehu, queried why the PDP-led presidency did not cry foul when former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the late ex-President Umaru Yar’Adua and the incumbent rejected the APC presidential candidate’s offer to engage them in debates during the 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections.
Shehu asked, “Was it alright when it happened in 2003, 2007 and 2011? If it (rejection) was right then, what makes it wrong now?”

If I were President Jonathan, I would have close this chapter of debating with GMB because it will do him more harm than good by exposing more of his failures to Nigerians and int'l community, ok, did he think that he will disgrace GMB if they were to debate both in coherent, experience and exposure, afterall in 2011 he refused to debate with GMB. Mr President should not allow himself to be disgrace more in public. thats my candid advice.

Why making big deal out of this debate? Jonathan once ran away in 2011, jonathan was refuse to declare his asset, so if another take the kinda step he took then what's the big deal? We all voted him without him debating and now its another persons turn.

It helps to deepen democracy to have these debates. No where in the world have I seen an opposition candidate running from debate.

I really don't know why Buhari thinks avoiding debates is in his political interest? It smacks of arrogance.

One thing I know is Buhari does not have the upper hand in this election. God knows why he is running from debates and denying Nigerians the opportunity to see 2 candidates running for election standing side by side and defending their records.

What is APC hiding?

Buhari is a stark illiterate who cannot speak the English language in a way that is understandable to educated people, therefore it is in his own best interests to avoid all venues where he might be called upon to engage in public debate.

Rather than allow his antiquated and militant world-view to be cross examined by a debate moderator, or worse still by an educated opponent such as incumbent President Jonathan, Buhari prefers to parrot his usual tired threats and bombast by way of press releases issued on his behalf by the token few of his dim witted followers who are capable of reading and writing.
