"Alleged" South African Troops Spotted In Maiduguri Is Untrue. by Vikkie14: 4:23am On Mar 09, 2015
This thread is a counter to allegations in some quarters/media reports https://www.nairaland.com/2182090/photos-south-african-troops-maiduguri/1#31362042 over "South Africa" Mercenaries Fighting alongside the Nigerian Army in Borno which went viral last week.
.
.
Last week, Nigerian opposition knuckleheads, ever so eager to discredit, floated photographs of what were supposedly South African mercenaries riding in REVA MRAPs.
While the controversy raged on in Nigerian cyberspace, a respected aficionado of South African extraction went to town on his own volition and after exhaustive enquiries, wrote to confirm the fact that the contentious photograph was "photoshopped". The photos were certainly not shot in Nigeria.
So take those photographs circulating in cyberspace to be another bad example of how far the desperadoes in Nigeria’s political opposition will go to discredit the military and the FG which controls it. They should be ashamed of themselves.

For what it’s worth, those pics were taken in Guinea Equatorial:
1) The rear view of Vehicle 2C shows an Equatorial Guinea flag and the signpost is in Spanish;
2) The Oando filling station reference of your correspondents doesn’t hold up – the company operates throughout West Africa; and
3) More important, that’s the MKIII version, which Equatorial Guinea acquired in 2013. As for Nigeria, they operate the latest MK V version of which an ambulance version was posted.. END OF EXCERPTS.

I am also pleased to inform you, gentlemen, that pursuant to the unprecedented build-up of assets which the Nigerian Army are undergoing, we are now operators of the latest REVA Mk.5 MRAPs and battlefield ambulances. In the days ahead, we shall begin to see them in the field. Also,
Look at the flag at the right edge of the picture in question, then compare to the flag below.

Yeah! I must also add to it that Nigeria is using her own for MEDEVAC purposely only. Our own REVA V are not meant to battle Insurgency but solely as Ambulance and Evacuation of Injured/Dead soldiers from the battlefield. Mis-information and insinuations must be put to check so we wont be having an influx of 'fake/distorted' news going viral.

Make the thread count cox we need to balance up any news being fed to Nigerian. They have the right to fair journalism but when a report is "slanted", we need to balanced that up so we wont be mis-informed. Thank You.

Your story is false. That street is Bama road as confirmed by many sources.

Look at the posters of the governor hanging on the post and the Oado petrol station.

Nigeria acquired both REVA III and V versions.

The Ambulances is MK V.

The place is Maiduguri.
