President Goodluck Jonathan Cam­paign team in the South-West has described as uncouth and consistent with the behav­iour and utterances of the opposition party and its principal actors, a state­ment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Yoruba leaders over the endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 28 presidential election.

The campaign Public­ity Director of Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candi­date of APC, Mr. Garuba Shehu, had in a recent state­ment alleged that the en­dorsement of President Jonathan by members of the national conference from the South-West was predi­cated on spurious and utterly dishonest reasons, adding that the real reason for the endorsement was because of their personal economy.

Reacting to the remarks, the South-West PDP in a statement issued yesterday by Media Coordinator, Pres­idential Campaign Council South-West chapter, Akin Osuntokun, said: “Like any sane and rational person, our first reaction to the gutter snipe insult on Yoruba lead­ers by the APC, was that, ‘no, this cannot possibly be true’, even though it is con­sistent with the antecedent behaviour and utterances of the APC and its principal ac­tors.

“We thought that no cul­tured and well-brought upperson will degenerate to this depraved and primi­tive level in defaming the authentic leadership of the Yoruba nation and by ex­tension, the whole Yoruba people.”

The party mentioned Dr. Kunle Olajide, Dr. Femi Obayori, Senator Femi Okunrounmu, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Mr. Yinka Odu­makin, Remi Olatubo­ra, Basorun Seinde Arogbo­fa, Sir. Samuel Adetuyi, Dr. Amos Akingba, Chief Olu Falae, Chief Sola Ebise­ni, Lady Yemi Mahmud- Fasominu, Ogundipe Lanre, Chief Richard Akin­jide, Wale Ajani, Adekanmbi Ayodele, Salvador Moshood Adegoke and Otunba Gani Adams as among the set of distinguished personalities, who represented the Yoruba nation at last year’s national conference, adding that the same were the leaders who teamed up with other dis­tinguished Yoruba icons to endorse the candidacy of President Jonathan for the 2015 presidential election.
