Now that is a typical Nigerian environment for kids growing up in Lagos in the early 80s! lol
Although my mom would not actually sit on 'apoti' like this, but she dished our meals seperately to avoid confrontation between me and my kid brothers, and trusting me, I would pick the biggest and still 'borrow' my youngest brother's meat or fish or chicken.
And the guillible boy (now 37 year old man, lol) would let me, or else he gets the beating of his life when mom leaves for her shop..
Good old days!
It's not like this anymore with our Indomie kids...
one word, bully. grin

These were the good old days, when soup used to taste like soup and when one can eat excessively without worrying about calories. Sometimes I feel like going to village to eat like this, but no one does this anymore. If you are young, enjoy your meals, when you grow your taste buds die off and soup will never taste the same again.

Wow. I remb those days..
We will hear mum call from d kitchen. Henry, tony, chukwude.

If u mistakenly touch d smallest portion by trying to weigh it, omo dat automatically becomes ur portion. Naso we go dey move round d angles of d plates like land nd survey pple so as to be sure of the depth of the plates....

Those days when the older kids would kidnap the fish or meat with a single ball of eba....it helped to curb such.

So you experienced that too? Mine was worst cos i was the last born. The only additional hope for me then was that whenever dad came back to take his, i would fully be part of his own. Left for those elderly brothers/sisters, dem no send you at all. Dem go collect all your own add chop.

Yoruba mother's will say "Bola, oya gbekan. Tunde iwo na gbe tie". It's a way of teaching children how to respect their elders.
