Intending And First-time Farmers: Lets Meet Here by OLAMIMO12(m): 2:39pm On Mar 19, 2015
Hello.......am Olamimo. I'm a first time farmer in fruits and vegetables production(Cucumber/Watermelon). Am writing this thread to share my little knowledge with like minded peopple.
Starting farming(crop production), like other aspect of agribusiness, involves many things ranging from which crop to go for, land aquisition, labour palava, soil preparation, ......etc.
From the little i have witnessed, I strongly believe, someone will benefit.Moreso, with this thread older farmers will assist both me and my peers in our new endeavour.

@Perpetual459, not an old farmer but ugu is very good & profitable. Where is your location?

@OP, nice thread & following. Also started a farm & hoping to plant b4 elections. Will update as things progress. Labour is a challenge but God is helping. Interested in the seeds you spoke of. How do I get them? Based in Lagos.

Tonight, lets briefly discuss land aquisition and Labour management.
In my own view, purchasing your farmland is more rewarding. Lease is also advisable if you are unable to pay at onset.
Down to labour stuff. I can say here with little accuracy that inavailability of labour cuts across agricultiral industry. So, be ready to soil your palms. No farming "without touching hoe or cutlass" as you may read it in online write-ups.Those are "computer farmers"
Moreso, dont flash your labours with high pay. They might not do the corresponding work for you.
Till next time, stay following.

First-time farmers, lets talk of challenges. Success story will ruin your ambition/career.
Re: Intending And First-time Farmers: Lets Meet Here by OLAMIMO12(m): 12:44pm On Apr 04, 2015
Listen to challenges being faced on farms. Learn from mistakes of others. Discuss your current problem with like minds.
Re: Intending And First-time Farmers: Lets Meet Here by OLAMIMO12(m): 8:44pm On Apr 08, 2015
Let me quickly put in these lines. Any intending farmer, should procure simple farm tools. Especially protective wears. These includes gloves, rainboots, helmets, nose covers, .........etc. These will protect you from sustaining avoidable injury. This is from experience.
Happy farming

Hello first time farmers, i heard a saying in agric settings. i then deemed it fit i share it with you. it reads thus : " if you want to make big money in agriculture, start small. If you want to make little money, start big."
Please, digest this saying and feed me back.
Happy farming
