We need change no matter how we look at things in these country as long as corruption continues to thrive in gigantic scale as we have now, impunity becoming the norm, unemployment rising daily and mismanagement and wasteful spending on the rise, so let's make a decision that will put Nigeria on the right path and reduce these suffering and stop all those that have been using divide and rule strategy against us along different lines be it religion, ethnic etc. Think about the future before you vote and not what gets into your pocket now.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR WOMEN DURING/POST ELECTIONS

In any outbreak of conflict or violence, women and children are the most vulnerable. This is due to the fact that they are less equipped to defend themselves against rampaging aggressors who are usually men and youths - who may take the opportunity of violating women and young girls. There is a tension in the air regarding the elections slated for Saturday, 28th March, 2015 and 11 April, 2015. Whilst a document of ‘no violence’ was signed by both Parties, there has been eruptions of pockets of violence all over and though we know security agencies are prepared to protect the citizens, it is prudent to take some additional protective actions.

Some Safety Precautions:

1. Most important, If you don’t have a PVC stay away from polling booths or wander the streets.

2. You will spend considerable time at the Polling Centre, so take along adequate refreshments that will last the period.

3. Put on comfortable, decent clothes and shoes. If possible wear a wide brimmed hat to ward off the sun.

4. Monitor the movement of your teenage children (youths), so they don’t get involved in actions that could put them on a collusion course with security agents. Educate them on dangers of such confrontations no matter what.

5. Make provision to leave under-aged children at home with supervision. Provide adequate provision for them so they don’t leave the house whilst you are away.

6. At the Polling Booths, keep your opinion to yourself as to who you think is likely to win or who your candidate is. Do not taunt any opposition present. Being vocal may provoke a volatile situation that could degenerate. Silence is golden.

7. Be very vigilant of happenings around the polling booth and quietely alert security operatives if you observe any suspicious movements, objects being dropped in the vicinity or gunmen who are not security operatives, lurking around the area. Don't touch or go near any suspicious object. It may be a home made bomb.

8. In the event of any outbreak of shooting, lie down immediately or quickly find a shield. Running makes you a moving target and don’t let your curiosity get the better of you.

9. In the event of outbreak of violence move away quickly from the scene if you are on the streets. Stay indoors if you are at home. Again don’t let curiosity get the better of you.

10. Store all relevant emergency hotlines for your area: police stations, fire stations, ambulance units for use in emergency situations. Keep your phone charged and have sufficient credit.

11. If possible, stock up on non-perishable food items just in case you have to stay home for a few days. Be careful about petrol storage!

12. Monitor situation as it develops on TV and Radio before going out next day.
Women, you are the core of the society – keep on emphasizing the need for a peaceful, non-violent election to all those around you.

We are in this together. Nigeria is our Country. Share widely.
