South-east Reclaims Lead In Education! by Ellyptical: 11:45pm On Jan 24, 2009

Of recent, the south-east has reclaimed the lead in education which they had prior to the civil war. The current trend and statistics shows that the south-eastern states have more students enrolling into schools, studying and graduating. A typical reflection of this is the latest PTDF Overseas Scholarship screening list.
Also, for the past ten years or thereabout, the Jamb Statistics has consistently shown that the south-east is gearing up seriously in terms of academics as they have always topped the chart by having the highest enrollments and admissions at state level.

Notice the HUGE margin between the first two south-eastern states and the rest of the other states.
Also note that contrary to general expectation, the state with the highest number of Secondary and Tertiary Institutions is not from the south-west. Its Imo State.

you're so interested in experiencing their present(the jews), maybe you should experience their past - extermination, pogroms on the regular as a matter of course, slave class in a civilization , and subjected to popular discrimination - perhaps we should write a nigerian merchant of alaba - featuring obinna the igbo and his quest for his pound of flesh   - or maybe ikechukwu/fagin the master criminal  grin

anyway sha , all the best - though i fail to see how jamb and qualifying for a test are any real indicators of 'claiming lead in education'

tpia:

am I seeing double or isnt Delta State topping this list here.

@ OP- are you sure you're coherent? Abi there's another state with the initials DEL in Nigeria.

When will Nigerians applaud genuine stride to unadulterated success besides the ones emanating from their neck of the wood? Even the ones that come across as enlightened would find a way to fall for the frowziness of ethnic bias.

It is amazing how you side stepped the main results of self-indulged achievements on the above table to drool over the table below that is being blanketed by considerable variables involved in the PTDF scholarship program. Even with the aforementioned coded determinants that play in award of scholarship, I bet you that the two states from south-east may have been overlooked in certain areas.

Please take an unbiased look on the top table, you will realize that even a die-hard detractor of Ndigbo like you should welcome the whopping and a huge margin of excellence separating the two top states from the struggling third state, in this case, DEL.

Again, stop hating and start appreciating the scintillating quality of mankind strolling from the lands of the rising Sun.

Drug traffickers: ‘Number of Nigerians in foreign jails unknown’
By John Ameh, Abuja
Published: Friday, 23 Jan 2009
The Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr. Lanre Ipinmisho, said on Thursday that the number of Nigerians involved in the trafficking of hard drugs across international borders had taken a frightening dimension.

Lanre Ipinmesho, DG, NDLEA

He called for additional support for the agency by all segments of the Nigerian society to combat the problem, which, he said, was fast destroying the country.

Ipinmisho, who appeared before the House of Representatives’ Committee on the Diaspora, headed by Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa in Abuja, disclosed that as at 2005, about 1,120 Nigerians were languishing in jails outside the country for drug-related offences.

The NDLEA boss admitted that the figures were grossly underestimated as the agency did not have the figures for 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

He blamed the lack of reliable statistics on the alleged non-compliance with Section 45 of the NDLEA Act by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ipinmisho said, “This section mandates all heads of Nigerian diplomatic missions abroad to forward to the NDLEA every six months, statistics of Nigerians in jail abroad for drug offences.

“Lack of cooperation stems from foreign countries particularly the Western world of United Kingdom and the United States of America.”

Reacting to the statistics provided by Ipinmisho, Dabiri-Erewa and other members of the committee expressed shock, saying that the situation demanded urgent intervention from government.

She said, “Obviously, this is not good for us as nation. It is not good for our image. The NDLEA needs massive support, in funding and logistics.”

“At the level of the committee, we shall try and assist by collaborating with the Committee on Foreign Affairs to overcome some of your challenges.”

“These countries refuse to provide relevant information relating to Nigerians involved in drug trafficking in their countries on grounds that double jeopardy exists in the Nigerian law –Decree 33 of 1990.”

Giving a breakdown of current available statistics, he said that over 600 Nigerians were in jail in Thailand as at 2002, out which 521 were transferred home between 2003 and 2008.

There were 229 in Russia (2001); 226 in Pakistan (2006); 28 in Indonesia (2003); another 12 in the same country in (2004); and 25 in Italy (2004).

“As can be seen from above, the statistics available are not up to date and very unreliable as the agency neither has the capacity nor the resources to gather these statistics.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has a very crucial role to perform in this respect”, he added.

But, quoting from the 2008 report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for West and Central Africa , Ipinmisho stated that out of 1,357 couriers arrested, “Nigerian citizens were by far more detected nationally, accounting for about 57 per cent of the total arrested.”

He noted, “Between 2005 and 2008, at least 46 tons of Cocaine were seized in West African Sub-Region; this is alarming when compared with the fact that before then, the entire continent hardly seized a ton.

“About 3.4 tons of Cocaine were seized from 1, 357 West African couriers on commercial flights from West Africa to Europe between 2004 and 2008.

“53 per cent of those arrested in South Africa in 2005 were Nigerians while in 2006, 31 per cent of those arrested for drug trafficking in France were Nigerians.”

The DG, who told the committee that the “problem was getting more alarming”, said it had reached a point where out of every 100 suspects arrested, 55 per cent were Nigerians.

“Sadly, 90 per cent of these Nigerians are from the South-East, especially Anambra State .

“We have been engaging the South-East governors, traditional and religious leaders in discussions and they are doing something about it,” he stated.

Locally, he revealed that Kano State had the highest number of consumption of all illicit drugs, while the South-West supplied 90 per cent of Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp) in the country.

Meanwhile, the House in plenary, mandated the joint Committee on the Diaspora, Foreign Affairs and Justice to investigate within three weeks and submit a report on the circumstances leading to the killing of a Nigerian, Shefiu Salaudeen, in Ukraine on January .

This is one of the many reason we want to join benin republic. I do not see the south west catching up with the igbo and the north in education. The south west is 50 year behind the north and the igbos.

All the children in the south west stop going to school. Teachers dont come to school, no money to pay them,

The north and the igbos are more advance than the south west. The north and the igbo have gone ahead. Look only God can save the yorubas now.

The south west is under develop, with no good road like you find in the north.

How can you compare mud houses in ibadan with very good houses in Abuja, kano or kaduna or jos. The south west need only prayer now.

first picture is imo state from satellite picture. and second is ibadan state.

I thought by now your joyous state of emptiness concerning the percentage of south-eastern kids arrested in foreign countries because of drug trafficking would have faded.
Does it occur to your lazy arse that today’s south-east of Nigeria was the main hub of former eastern region of Nigeria?

Have you realized that among the three original regions of Nigeria that eastern Nigeria is only one without any federal government presence? Lagos was a federal seat that swallowed considerable amount of funds Nigeria had earned since her independence. Are you in doubt that Lagos is the hub of former western region of Nigeria?

Today, the Abuja has taken the place of Lagos in swallowing funds earned by the misconceived country called Nigeria. I hope you are not in doubt that Abuja, like Lagos, could be equally regarded as the hub of former northern region of Nigeria.

With federal funds and capitals being sunk in Lagos and Abuja, these cities and their regions saw boost of unimaginable economic spread other states and regions can only dream.

Former eastern region in general and the so-called south-east in particular have been left bare of any economic assistance from the federal government. Among the three original regions, it is only eastern Nigeria that stood without international airport of the size of MMA or NAA. Networks of roads that are solely the responsibility of the federal government of Nigeria were left to the condition of pre-civil war.

The successive evil and retrogressive governments of the jungle called Nigeria have set in motion the socio-political machination to stymied economic growth in south-east region. But one thing the moronic government of Nigerian can not achieve is to block the natural endowment of Ndigbo. Believe me, the insatiable quest for knowledge will surely overcome all forms of adversity.

It is rather unfortunate that you found yourself in a state of awkward predicament because you have foolishly deduced that the actions of few Nigerians tend to tarnish your image. Until Nigeria finds it fit to put her house in order with fair and equitable distribution of her wealth, you could jump off cliff or worse, there will be no place your sorry arse will call Nigeria.

Bear in mind that a third to about half of deltans are igbo. Asaba, Anioma etc
Go and do your research well.
@oyb
Have you heard that Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin if Isreal sent rabbis to igboland to seek some of the lost tribes?
Its sickening arguing with people who don't read wide. Very sickening!
In this modern day and age, oyb does not know that Beta Yisrael (the jewish tribe in ethiopia) has returned to Israel? He is still in the oblivion of imagining that they are wallowing in poverty in Ethiopia.
Please read this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Solomon
Again, what makes you feel jews all over the world are suffering? The jews in S. Africa are wealthy and well to do, likewise the ones in the US.
Please before you try to counter my points (which have a reputation for being factual) make sure you can withstand the argument when it heats up.

Please i think you should not do this .This will only bring igbo bashing here.I thought we have gone beyod these by now.It is already known that igbos are now going to school like any other ethnic group in nigeria if not more and anyone that does not want to believe that is the person's business.
Re: South-east Reclaims Lead In Education! by Ellyptical: 1:31pm On Jan 25, 2009
@ Asha,
why are you so scared of this your "Igbo Bashing" thing? Have you noticed that my threads have hardly suffered any real bashing? I always make factual and verifiable statements. While i understand your concern for the image of Igbos, I still want to reassure you that I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING.
Take it easy. It'll be fine. Anyone who feels he can challenge me (and ultimately try to bash the igbos) should go ahead and as usual, end up shying away from the thread like most of my critics do.

For Eg, Lets see if OYB will return boldly to this thread after making it obvious to the whole world on an online forum that he is person who spews words that are blatant falsehoods (referring to his comment ethiopian jews). I don't think i should be scared of "bashing" from people like OYB who are still 17 Years behind the world. Operation Solomon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Solomon the airlift of ethiopian Jews to Israel) took place 17 years ago and someone in this present day and age wants to debate on an online forum with intellectuals and is oblivious of major events that flaw his arguments. Of such I cannot be scared of.

Again, It possibly pays to make people who are committed to holding you back see how futile their effort is and will continue to be. Perhaps some wind of sane thought may make them give up on trying to hold you back.
Thanks for the concern though.
Yours
Ell.
PS: It seems you do not believe the link between Igbos and Jews. Well, thats another thread for another day.

What nonsense did you say, you are talking. You need God in your life. Without God you would be confuse. GEt him back in your life.

Go to yorubaland children are dropping out of school. can some one post the picture of lagos school. they sit on the floor. where is the money to build new class room or new chairs.

they can even pay for teachers. I know someone in one of the south west state that is a teacher and for about 8 month they never got paid.

The south west state have no more money to do any single project . They are broke. They go from bank to bank to borrow money to meet thier monthly duty.

If you talk about bad road. there is no place in nigeria that have bad road like the south west.

The north have stable electricity. But most part of the south west have not seen light for 2 or 3 month.

and after this , you now compare yourself with the north or igboland. Who have good school and they are leading in education.

Is it the light that is stable in Abuja , you want to compare to lagos where there is no electricity for 2 or 5 month .

Northern city and igboland city are far far modern than the old mud houses in the south west. In development. The north is 50 years ahead of the south west . Go to abuja , kaduna or kano and see, And come back to the south west and compare with rubbish building. Go to igboland too and compare with the rubbish of the south west.

Is it the road in lagos or ibadan or akure that fashola , akala or agagu is looking for money to repair. You want to compare with expressway in abuja, kano or kaduna or even port harcourt or owerri.

Or you want to compare akure stadium or liberty stadium with abuja stadium.

Look go and visit other part of nigeria and you see it is better than the south west. The south west is the most underdevelop place in Nigeria. Even igboland or south south is more develop than the south west. Please . The only answer is for us to go to the republic of benin and get develop.

Abuja is not North technically and if you want to compare North and south west in terms of education, then you need psychaitric help. I don't care how big Northern schools are, they can never get close to south west in the next 100 years. Igbo leading in academics is no more a new gist. Ibime posted this long time ago and i think it's a good thing for the south west because it will serve as a wake up call.

North is still the leader in mud houses. It's poverty rate that determines how you live and if North is the poorest of the three, why do you think they have better houses?

Please if you were asleep when scribed your latest post, I suggest you wakeup and sniff some coffee. You have the audacity to accuse me of being paranoia because I pointed out how you sarcastically avoided the main table of individual's academic laurels and danced all over the table that was surrounded by the intrigues of scholarship award. I bet you that if IMO or ANA was also on top of the second table, you would have avoided it like a leper.

It is only a person suffering from juvenile delinquent that would refer to an important national academic statistical data as a tool of juvenile game.

I can assure you that what we have on this forum is not lack of focus but wrong focusing spurred by ethnic bias. Honestly, I thought you would have initially replied to the post with phrases like: great and wonderful achievement.

and after this , you now compare yourself with the north or igboland.

Please . The only answer is for us to go to the republic of benin and get develop.

you missed your med . . . . .?
how old are you

Ps.

Places were education is undeveloped require our immediate attention, not for us to point fingers and say "hah, you're 100 years behind, you backwards".

Tribal incitement and hate speech should really be seen as treason.

And where are the educationally disadvantaged regions?I ask this question because the ethnic group that is said to be leading in education is said to be the ethnic that does not take education seriously.People always say that they prefer trading to education. So why would an ethnic group that people say prefer trading to education seem to be leading in education?

We've known it for a while.
Great news
Igbo kwenu!
It's good to hear these heartwarming statistics amongst all the crime news all over Igboland (like in all of Nigeria)
Wonderful!
