The President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari is
billed to stom Akwa Ibom on Tuesday on one-day
visit, considered as significant to entrench the
APC ahead Saturday’s governorship poll.
General Buhari will receive thousands of Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) supporters who had
resolved to decamp into the APC during his visit
to Akwa Ibom, according to reports.
The visit by the incoming President, according to
Akwa Ibom APC is also to drum support for the
party as part of moves aimed towards neutralizing
the propaganda already mounted against it by the
government of the state.
Buhari is expected to be accompanied into Uyo,
Akwa Ibom State capital by top APC members
including the former governor of Edo State, Chief
John Odigie Oyegun and some APC governors.
He will use the visit to Akwa Ibom to kick-start
his “Thank You” Visits to other APC states where
he received overwhelming support during the last
presidential election.
Long before now, the outgoing governor of Akwa
Ibom, Godswill Obot Akpabio had advised the
people of the state never to be on the side of the
opposition, whereas, the APC during the visit by
Buhari will seize the opportunity to warn voters in
the state to heed Akpabio’s advise by voting en-
masse for APC next Saturday.
According to a statement by the Umana Umana
Campaign Organisation, Buhari during his will
receive high calibre politicians and every other
person from PDP who had resolved to decamp
into the APC.
“We do not want to walk alone, we want to carry
everyone along, said the Campaign Organisation
in a statement”.
It stated further “The journey towards a new
Nigeria has begun and Akwa Ibom State cannot
be left out in the scheme of things.
“His Excellency, Godswill Akpabio already told
Akwa Ibom people never to play Opposition Party
and cautioned everyone against being in the
opposition.
He was right, Akwa Ibom will remain in the
Governing Party on the platform of APC led by Mr
Umana Okon Umana.
