GOVERNMENT OF IMO STATE

PRESS RELEASE

SUBJECT: HIS EXCELLENCY SETS UP HRM EZE OHIRI-LED COMMITTEE TO MEET WITH OBA OF LAGOS

His Excellency, Governor Rochas Okorocha has announced the setting up of a committee made up of notable traditional rulers in the State to be led by the chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM, Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri who would travel to Lagos to meet with the Oba of Lagos, HRM Rilwan Akiolu over the death threat he was said to have issued to the Igbos in Lagos if they fail to vote for APC in the governorship election that comes up on Saturday.
The governor directed that the Eze Ohiri Committee should leave for Lagos immediately to meet with the Oba to enable them have one-on-one discussion over the said threat by the traditional ruler, and extract some commitments from him.
The chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum said although the traditional ruler was reported to have denied the report, it should not be enough to accept that refutal without traditional rulers from the South-East meeting with him to discuss the controversy and the way forward, to ensure that the long existing cordial relationship between the Igbos in Lagos and their host community should remain commendable and enviable.
The governor remarked that it was not enough to take up the matter on the pages of newspapers, with some of the commentators only keen in the issue to cause more serious problem between the Igbos in Lagos and the Oba of Lagos, but a new approach that would be more result-oriented should be employed, which includes the traditional rulers from the State to be led by Eze Ohiri going to Lagos and meeting with the Oba to talk about the matter.
No serious Igbo man or Yoruba man would like trouble to exist between the Igbos and the Oba of their host community, and that limiting the attendant actions to comments on the pages of newspaper won’t solve the ripple. The traditional rulers when they get to Lagos and indeed to the Oba, would try to hear from the Oba directly, look at the entire issue and know what to tell the Oba or what to demand from him before travelling back to Owerri.
The Governor urged the Igbos in Lagos to remain calm and also remain the good ambassadors of the Igbo nation like they have always been and that the current misunderstanding should not be allowed to cause unnecessary rift between them and the Yorubas in Lagos.

This is his real comment on the issue unlike the trash been promoted by PDP to score cheap political point.

@ shachris,

Don't you know its to their when controversial issues like that hit the fp? It causes ethnic bashing which will generate more traffic for NL and its owners. I think some of those threads are deliberately promoted for traffic generation.

Rocha's Okorocha is gradually emerging as leader of the Igbo nation.

Instead of sitting on the sidelines and whining that Igbos are being marginalised in the socio political landscape of Nigerian politics, he has entered the ring and is pulling his weight marvelously building bridges and the requisite goodwill that will eventually make him garner the requires votes to become president.

Very smart man with foresight. Unlike short sighted men like Orji Uzo Kalu who would like to be president of Nigeria but had the nerve to call Lagos a no mans land. When his balls were squeezed economically, the guy just "me chionu."

Let it be clear that Yorubas wish Igbo well and we have nothing against you. Your prospering on our lands does not hinder our own progress, after all " oju orun to eiye fo" ..just stop looking for our trouble. That is all we ask.

Rochas should be very careful about his utterrances on this matter if he doesn't want to pay with his governorship ambition. The Igbos are very hurt right now as anything he says or does will be used against him on Saturday

He should also remember that 400000 people voted PDP against 100000 that voted APC

The above alleged proposition from Mallam Rochas Okorocha can be best described as a boneheaded postulation from a culturally anemic governor of Imo State. So-called Oba of Lagos is seemly a wish fellow and should be held responsible for his acts. If there should be chaos and destruction of lives and properties in Lagos State during or after the gubernatorial contest, the loudmouthed joker should be a target.

look the Nigerian constitution does not recognise anything like a host community. you have the right to live anywhere in Nigeria without needing a visa or a residence permit. the words host community would only function if u talking about an Igbo man trading in Ghana or a Yoruba man in Senegal. then u can talk about he or she and his or her host community. not where the person is a Nigerian citizen, such a person has the right to live ad reside anywhere in Nigeria

You didn't answer my question my friend. No one has said Igbos can't live in lagos or that they need a visa to come to lagos.

The question is can you refer to Onitsha as a no-man's land??

e.g Can a yoruba man be installed as the Obi of onitsha since according to you, nothing like host communities hence no tribe can claim uniqueness over another tribe in any place in Nigeria or claim ownership of the throne in any given town or city??

an igbo man can contest election to the office of the governor of Lagos same way a yoruba man can also contest in Enugu. the issue would be weather it would be practically possible for an igbo man to win such elections in Lagos and a Yoruba in Enugu. that's the difference between the law in letters ad in practice. issues to practicability could be whether both sides would be able to garner enough votes to win such an election. for instance the voting population of igbos in lagos as per percentage would outweigh the voting population of the yorubas in enugu for instance. as per traditional rulers that's heredity so what's tour point?

based on the bolded, can you in all honesty call any town, city or village having a recognized king a no-man's land?
