IGP Redeploys Mbu To Ogun by asala1: 4:42am On Apr 10, 2015 |
With less than 48 hours to the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections, the controversial police officer posted to oversee Lagos and Ogun states recently, Mbu Joseph Mbu, alongside 15 other Deputy Inspectors-General (DIG), was yesterday redeployed by the Inspector-General of Police, (IGP), Mr Suleiman Abba. Mbu, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, and 15 other colleagues were redeployed according to a statement issued yesterday by the Acting Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu. He said the posting is to supervise the governorship and House of Assembly elections. The statement reads in part, “In addition to the deployment of six Deputy Inspectors-General of Police to coordinate police activities in the six geo-political zones, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Suleiman Abba, has deployed Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to supervise the April 11, 2015 gubernatorial elections in the following states listed against their names: “1. J.Ibine Enugu State – CP Adamu Mohammed Osun State – CP Valentine Ntomchukwu. It added that, “the IGP has deployed a commissioner of police to command each of the senatorial zones of the following states; Gombe, Bauchi, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Benue, Edo, Plateau and Sokoto. IGP Deploys 4 Special Units To Rivers “For Rivers State, the following Special Units of the Nigerian Police Force have been deployed to address security concerns. These are; 32 Units of Police Mobile Force (PMF), 4 Units of Counter terrorism Units (CTU), 4 Units of Special Protection Units (SPU) and 6 Crack Teams of Detectives from Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and complements of Intelligence officers.” The exercise takes immediate effect. IGP Issues No Movement Order Meanwhile, the inspector-general of police, Suleiman Abba, has ordered a restriction of movement during Saturday’s governorship and state House of Assembly elections. Abba gave the order yesterday in a statement by the Force spokesman, CP Emmanuel Ojukwu, in which he disclosed that the restriction will begin from 8am to 5pm on Saturday, April 11, 2015 only. Ojukwu however, disclosed that the restriction excludes the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, as well as vehicles on essential duties such as Fire Service, ambulances and vehicles used by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and law enforcement/security agencies. “In a bid to further ensure safety and security in the forthcoming Gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly elections holding on Saturday, April 11, 2015, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Suleiman Abba, has ordered a restriction of vehicular movement in all the 36 States of the Federation from 8am to 5pm on Saturday, April 11, 2015 only. “This restriction excludes vehicles on essential duty such as Fire Service, Ambulances and vehicles used by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and law enforcement/security agencies. There is no restriction of vehicular movement in the Federal Capital Territory as there is no election taking place there on the said date,” he said. The IGP assured that adequate security logistics and manpower have been strategically deployed to achieve a most conducive electioneering atmosphere, stressing that policemen for election duty have been properly briefed on their roles as stipulated in the Electoral Act and are expected to be professional, non-partisan, civil but firm in their approach and relation to the public. http://leadership.ng/news/424401/april-11-elections-igp-redeploys-mbu-to-ogun 2 Likes |

I hope they settle down quickly to ensure that their locations are violent free during the elections. I really hope that they coordinate well ,this re-shuffle I'm thinking so close to election might not give them ample time to acquaint with their location especially volatile areas that need more security personnel,or is this a ploy to remove them from familiar territories to avoid them being used by desperate politicians? 2 Likes |

Few hours to the Local Elections?? Not a good move. He will sure be outsmarted by the locals coz even his men won't be too free to brief him on recent Local happenings coz of his (mbu) personality. NB: DON'T LET MBU CATCH YOU IN THE ACT. 11 Likes 1 Share |

Clears throat. . Is this still The Nigerian Police Force? Or is it now The Northern Police Force? And before I am accused of tribalism, check the stats. Police comissioners, AIGs, DIGs IGs! Even the DPO in charge of my local police station in the east is one Mohammed something! Hello!? Am I missing something somewhere? Maybe the annointed ones pass police exams more than others, abi 21 Likes 1 Share |

Buhari should make MBU EFCC chairman. I see more of "IdiAgbonism" in Mbu's attitude to work and I'm sure buhari needs such man if he really wanna sanitize Naija. Others are Jega, Ngige, Hamza mustapha(Abacha ADC), Prof Ilochi Okafor (former unizik VC) etc. My opinion though 12 Likes 1 Share |

Parade has truly changed gear. Things are changing, there's no more latitude for impunity in our land. The strategy in the redeployment pattern is quite evidently to euthanize any plans by Mbu or any corrupt security agents to interfere with the elections using their already established structures, strategies, and influence. The deployment of 32 fresh batches of MOPOL and 6 crack teams of detectives to Rivers state, among other special units, is an unveiled measure to contain the electoral violence already being perpetrated in the State. With the discovery of MASSOB's bomb factory yesterday, it is also not surprising to see a shake up in the security framework of some states in the region. I must give Kudos to the IGP, the citizens of RS will definitely feel safer, especially in knowing that their brothers will no longer be murdered and their mothers will no longer be tear-gassed into submission, for exercising their civic duties. The tables have turned. There's a new sheriff in town . 11 Likes 3 Shares

Policing in Nigeria needs decentralization. These AIGs needs time to familiarize themselves with the states before settling down, this redeployment is needless in my view.community policing is the best option we need to go for. 4 Likes |

*A vast majority of Nigerians are terrible hypocrites.Hardly will you see a report that will not be discussed from tribal and religious prisms! *Just have a look at some of the comments above. I smell hatred. I smell tribalism. *The hatred that some people from a particular trible have for Northerners is beyond me! To them, anybody from the North is Hausa. What ignorance!!! *The most worrisome thing is that these set of tribalistic minds are always quick to say 'One Nigeria' , 'Lagos is no man's land' etc when it suits them... *That is why the Lagos election has not been about what Ambode or Agbaje will do. Rather, it has been about how Agbaje's PDP has favoured Igbos' in Lagos. * It's about how Igbos' in Lagos can go beyond the 3 House of Representatives seats they won this year to getting a Deputy Governorship position in 2019 and to having an Igbo Governor in 2023. *Unfortunately, many Yorubas in Lagos do not know this. They are too blinded by their hatred for Tinubu to think deeply. *Don't get me wrong, I believe that Lagos is a cosmopolitan city and everybody should be accommodated. *But the idea of having a set of people voting for a particular candidate because of parochial considerations is what I don't like. *For your information, What Oba of Lagos said is unfortunate. But believe me, he said it out of anger. He said that because he knows that the Eze Ndigbo of Lagos may, in no distant future, question his authority as the Oba of Lagos. Things are already getting close to that point. *If Agbaje wins, his victory will be seen as 'a defeat of the Foul mouthed Yorubas in Lagos by the smarter Igbo men and women in Lagos'. *I'm saying all these because I had a 'chance encounter' with Ifeanyi Ubah. That encounter has changed my perception about the Guber elections. The election is not about Ambode or Agbaje neither is it about Tinubu v Bode George. It is about something else!!! * Think, Think and Think!!! 13 Likes 2 Shares |
