Extortion Of Nigerians At Seme Border by caprini1: 4:25pm On Apr 25, 2015 |
I had to put this topic across in the politics section for it to be attended to quickly. For close to two months now, when travelling by road to and fro Nigeria through the Seme border, between Nigeria and Benin Repulic,The Beninoise immigration officers charge Nigerians between N500 and N1000 to stamp entry or exit in our passports, failure to pay up,your passport is thrown at you , while in Nigeria ,you either give the immigration officer just N100 ,if you want to do so,but with a kind word of "please I don't have"you are free to go.. We keep talking about xenophobia in SA,but the way this neigbouring country, called Benin, treats Nigerians is uncalled for.And parts of their economy survives solely on Nigerians trooping in and out of their country on a daily basis. Please we in NL needs to raise awareness about this ugly trend, that might soon blow up into something else. 15 Likes 5 Shares

I've always wished for this issue to be brought to the light. My last experience was a life changer. I can't recount everything but, I can categorically state that our Nigerian customs service comptrollers n officers are refined rogues. They have been baptized in the act of ripping and raping innocent ppl off their goods. They r specialists in systematic kleptomania. I feel sorry for ignorant travelers who glide their feet into the jaws of these iron-teeth criminals. Pls, someone sud push on this so as to bring this issue to the hearing of the government 12 Likes 1 Share |

Re: Extortion Of Nigerians At Seme Border by caprini1: 5:20am On May 10, 2016 |
allthingsgood:They are all illegal ,but what can you do? it might have changed again, cos 1000 naira is now exchanged at 1800 CFA......its even cheaper to travel with out a passport, but then again you become source of meal ticket to French police in Benin and Togo. 4 Likes 1 Share |

caprini1: Hmm...not to the government. more like individuals in the govt. All the same they must be exposed. Govt can not act on rumour or NL post. Someone has to be brave enough to expose the thieves 3 Likes 1 Share |

caprini1: Thank you very much. When I used my passport to cross last year, they called it virgin passport even with the airport stamps and visa in it. I protested and it was of no use. So I paid 3200 at two ends of the border plus health whatever (those guys that check immunisation cards) and passport control. It was crazy. So pls, is N500 and 600CFA for both sides of the border and Seme and Hillakondji? 1 Like |

allthingsgood: But when the government officials are benefiting from it...... You expect them to act? These borders here are even nice, when you get to Elubo )Border between Ghana and CIV) Nigerian passports are opened with 10000CFA we pay the highest. The border between Ghana and Burkina is another one Anyways lemme not start talking much before painful memories start coming into my head. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Ugosample:At seme, firstly you need to be very careful as construction work is on going at the border so both coming in and out is on the same lane,a lot of hoodlums disguising as officials abound...... you pay 200 naira in Nigeria side and 500 in Benin.at hilakondji. its still 300cfa each on both Benin and Togo side. 1 Like 1 Share |

caprini1: But Nigerian immigration also deals ruthlessly with these Francophones too. I still remember what those immigration guys did to the Beninoise and Niger people. I cringe when I think of it 1 Like 1 Share |

Ugosample:lol. That's the situation we find ourselves. On the few times I went through land I noticed the same vice versa. Your heart starts beating once you are getting close to seme. Like you carried contraband.. they must always find something to hook you. Also I could count up to 80 check points before entering the city.. I mean There was a time that we had to pass through idroko cos some upcoming artist with tattoos on in his hands is enough to cause more delay. Getting to ikorodu it looked like it was a war torn area. I could not help but notice one immigration man wearing singlet with a bucket by the side filled with money. We lack alot of ideals. That's why regional integration has not been successful 4 Likes 1 Share |
