Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kogi state narrowly escaped being lynched at Ajaokuta by irate voters who protested non availability of election materials, especially ballot papers during last week’s House of Assembly rerun election.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kogi state, Alhaji Halilu Pai has confirmed that election materials for Ajaokuta Constituency in the rerun election held on saturday last week were diverted which led to violence in the area.

Pai who confirmed to journalists on sunday, said officials of the commission involved in the incident have been arrested and are currently being investigated by security agencies.

During the protest, INEC ad hoc and permanent staff escaped into the bush, while the Local Government office was razed by hoodlums.

Though no life was lost in the incident, several people were reportedly injured and many houses set ablaze.

Investigation revealed that of the seven polling units where there were to be rerun elections, only one returned with a photocopy of election result which was eventually rejected.

However, other rerun elections have been shifted to Tuesday, this week.
