My 6 months old alsatian wolf is very stubborn and never listens to me when he charges against people. He constantly tries to attack everybody when I take him out for walks, and this embarrasses me a lot as well as the innocent passer-bys.

Funny thing is, he listens and obeys his commands when we're indoors. But as soon as we're outside, he throws caution to the wind and becomes his own boss and would never listen to anybody.

I've tried reading up on obedience training and also watched a few videos from oyinbos, but I'm looking for a more practical advice from Nigerians. Some people suggested discipline by flogging him into submission - I totally don't buy that as he might just become fearful of me and probably resent me forever.

Please share what has worked for you.

He's mostly crated because we live in a rented apartment with other tenants, and I'm not around all the time to monitor him. I don't like the fact that he's caged either, but that's the only way for now. Thanks all the same, will reach out shortly.

Always make ur dog heel and you wouldn't have such problem, also ur reaction when U get close to passers-by sends an attack signal to ur dog

Firstly, the breed is not the type to be confined for a whole day. They thrive with physical activities. Find a way to stimulate your dog's energy, manage him by not working him where human passes. Let him enjoy going out with you first without distraction.

I think my dog thinks he's the pack leader. I don't know why he feels that way.

I had a verbal fight with an middle aged man who was trying to enter my street yesterday, and my dog charged at him. The dog was clearly under a leash. But rather than speak politely, he shouted rudely at me to hold my dog. I didn't like that, and we began exchanging words. My dog wasn't happy that this man was raising his voice at me, and began barking at him excessively.

From my observation, I think he thinks I'm unable to protect myself from people he feels are a threat. And the unfortunate thing is that he doesn't listen when I tell him to cool down. I'm looking to fix this, and the first thing I've done is bring him inside to live with me, and I've sensed he feels happier now. I let a lot of things slide before, but I intend to become more strict with the rules.

Be careful not to current what you didn't teach the dog . Make sure you make your rules more clearer to the boy . It's a normal thing for dog to respond when his owner is under threat.

You have to learn how to handle a leash... Secondly If you want your dog to obey you is not by shouting or saying a command to him in action, it's by you acting. You hold his leash and you will have to use the leash to stop him from action but you have to get the time right I will suggest you get an electric collar so you could use that to train him but there are ways to use and go about it. Feel free to ask for more help you needed any.

I would use prong collar instead of electric collar.

I face similar problem with my GSD.The 5 months old puppy is always in the cage all day long.Anytime I get home. And release her from the cage,she jumps on me celebrating her victory.She is always destructive anytime she is left to roam about compound.first victims are my children slippers mistakenly left outside.
I have promised the pups all my weekend.
