abdulkayus:Dude ,its African.... Our great grand mothers accepted our great grand father's surname during their days, Infact I don't know my mother's surname before she got married to my father... A man must not to tolerate such thing from his woman... Once you start tolerating poo from them, they would take you for granted.... 2 Likes |

coolhamid: It is not because you are African that you think that way, it is because you are more humane in your thoughts. That is how it is supposed to be. |

LET US NOT DERAIL THIS THREAD Some things have to be considered. Legally a woman's name change once she has done court marriage, any name she wrote at the registry became her name. That's why the have to publish it in newspapers. People keep their maiden names for social political and religious reasons. If a woman decides to keep her maiden name and her husband agrees i don't see anything wrong with it.its their right 2 Likes |

A feminist idea that a woman should be able to retain her identity after marriage. To be honest I have no issue with it. She carries both names, not just her father's name. |

Its not a bad idea....i ll surely allow my wife to add her surname to my surname, a la 'hyphenated/double-barrelled' name.......i dont really like the idea of women completely replacing their surname with their husband's.its better they have a hyphenated surnames......eg mrs buhari-jonathan 1 Like |

The feminists are fighting hard so as a fulfilment of that embarrassing piece in the bible where it says several women will cling and beg a man just to bear his name won't see the light of day. I'm a traditional man once it comes to the issue of family. It is a no no for me. I even dislodged my own fathers name so to start my own generation and empire. |

yorubaboiy:Do you know the Ijinle tradition of Yoruba. Surnames in general is not a Yoruba concept but one that was introduced by colonialists. It is interesting to see how people were named in Yorubaland. Names change with age and position and were never static. The Most usual name was of the First born child. e.g Iya Olalekan,Onigari followed by her adugbo and if there was more than one then the Agbole e.g Iya Olalekan Onigari ti Agbole Agbede. her given names were rarely used and never in the same way as we have today i.g Ronke Ayuba or Ronke Obasanjo. That is everywhere these days with "civilization" but is not Yoruba culture however that is a system of naming that came about through various colonial institutions 1 Like |

dyabman: Submission in the bible indicated BOTH parties in the marriage...not just the woman. The bible also speak about loving the woman as Christ loved the church...do you think Jesus will forsake you if you choose not to do some things in your freewill? So whys the hypocrisy? 1 Like |
