There is a saying that children are the leaders of tomorrow, very true. In most advanced nations, children are regarded as the greatest resources and their welfare is buttressed by a substantial budgetary allocation of those advanced nations. Hence, the UN (United Nations) gave a benchmark of at least 25% budgetary allocation for education alone for it’s member nations, which many nations struggle to meet up including the giant of Africa, Nigeria.

Education in Nigeria has reached an extremely deplorable state. It has never been this bad, imagine a nation where over 70% fail WAEC. What does it tell of the future of the nation? This mass failure has been occurring for almost a decade now and it has become a trend. It has grown into a hapless situation, an ill-fated woebegone and a perfect recipe for retrogression.

These are times where nations are advancing through the propulsion of education, where numerous researches have brought about ingenious discoveries for the betterment of mankind, where billionaires are been made every year through science and information technology. But here in Nigeria, the hoax largest economy on the African continent, what can we lay claim of? What an inconsolable circumstances.

The truth is, what do we expect from a nation, where nonentities and shallow values are being celebrated as opposed to educational values that can yield positive growth. Every year, we have over 50 beauty pageants celebrated with multinational companies and business organization spending millions if not hundreds of millions on such projects. According to them, it is okay to watch some witless girls walk around half naked than celebrate the best math students…… Same business organizations and multinational companies support unavailing shows, parties and occasions of no value with millions of Naira. Very unfortunate.

It seems like everyone has been infected by the virus of misplaced priorities. The government, our parents that heads various business organizations and multinational companies and other folks who sit down and do nothing watching these detrimental plague hovering across the realms of our great nation. I am not going to talk about the government because we all know the government have failed completely. We all know that the government are blatantly insensitive to the plight of the children.

We need to wake up from our unpleasant slumber and fix things right. Let us invest majorly on our educational values. Lets celebrate the bright minds, the children who put in extra efforts in their pursuit of excellence. Let us reward the intelligence of our future leaders. They need to be encouraged they need to be celebrated. It is for the survival of the nation. For the glory of Nigeria.
