PapiWata:
That animal is a young Nile Monitor Lizard, and if left alone they pose no inconvenience to humans.

Sadly, the poverty of Africa means that all non-humanoid life-forms are regarded as food and killed on sight, hence the great pride evident on the faces of all who kill wildlife and pose for photographs.

On a positive note for Nigeria, there is an un-named Urhobo speaking village in the Niger Delta, where Nile Monitor lizards are regarded as reincarnations of ancestors long-departed, meaning that killing or injuring of Monitor Lizards is ABSOLUTELY forbidden by cultural law.

After generations of being singled out to enjoy exemption from the target-list of Urhobo hunters, Nile Monitor Lizards multiplying freely in the wild close to that town have moved from the forests into populated areas, where the six-foot lizards are commonly seen eating from garbage tips, or casually raiding people's farms and homes for chickens and eggs, knowing that their activities are guaranteed never to invite aggression from humans.

The Nile Monitors of Urhobo-Land are potentially a MAJOR tourist attraction that could generate enormous levels of income from visitors curious to film the highly unusual urban giant lizard populations, with further income streams accruing from wildlife conservationists and media outlets like Discovery Channel or National Geographic.

When it comes to virtually ALL wildlife and forest, conservation PAYS far more cash in the long run, when compared to the short term rewards arising from wanton destruction.

Is that a baby crocodile or Komodo dragon?
Neither of the animal mentioned above. It is a specie of a reptile which is edible in some parts of the country as someone rightly pointed out.

Monitor lizard.

Leviticus 11:29-30
29 These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after his kind,
30 And the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole.

Colossians 2:16
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Choice is yours really Chief, to eat or not to eat. But...

1 Corinthians 8:13
13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
