Why jonaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Do you expect the incoming govt to pomp money into these newly upgraded institutions? This timing is too late but this is what we have been waiting for since the days of one and only prof. Babatunde Ipaye the then provost of the college (who described his students as over pampered). My alma matter finally becoming the dreamed university of education thank you Jesus. Finally, we are free from O.A.U of delay in the issuance of certificate. Let's celebrate the one and only Adeyemi College of Education now Adeyemi University of Education! Greaaaaàaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat Abico land! Great! Congratulations!

GEJ regime have pump in alot of resources in establishing Institutions in the country. After graduation what next? I would prefer if this resources is used to revive the Ajakuta Iron and Steel and other dead industries but these people does not have a clue or should i call them clueless leaders.

I wonder why only colleges are always upgraded to universities leaving polytechnics to its statues in Nigeria. Many countries of the world have actually upgrade their polytechnics to polytechnic university better still university. Yabatech, Kaduna poly and some other polytechnics are long over due for this changes. I know one day we will get there.

In as much as they're upgrading COE,they failed to include any specialist COE like FCE(Special)&dos of Technical even FCE Osiele that was far above the 4 upgraded COE. Questions: were d upgrade in d budget estimates 2 are there enough manpower/facilities on ground. This is going to be an unnecessary waste.

Wow...congratulations to the Alvanite.
God bless IMO state, God bless Naija.

In Orlu zone of 12 Lgas and with most of the population in Imo state, except secondary schools, the only fully govt run school is School for The Deaf, Blind and Mentally Handicapped at Orlu.

Yeah, Prof. Onwuliri from Owerri zone is a great politician.

This now is the third government university in Owerri which also hosts a Fed Poly - and Imopoly a stone throw from Owerri. Total of five govt unis and polys in in Imo state in one town - Owerri of 9 Lgas.

Are Orlu zone politicians, including Rochas Okorocha, not only after their private pockets --- since time immemorial?

With your mindset, by now we should be having about UI, UNN, OAU ABU, as only unis in Nigeria.

I think something is not right about this action of the govenment. A university is supposed to be an institution of higher learning that has more than one faculty. Once it is a 'one-faculty' institution it is called a college. So a college that produces only teachers cannot be rightly named a university unless more faculties are being added.
haven't u heard of specialise institution?

FG would do well to upgrade the facilities and not just the title.
most of this institution have huge structures than some university in the country, take adeyemi college of education for instance.

The first institution I looked for on the list was my alma mata ACE. Thankfully it was there. Ondo now has three universities. My hometown can now boast of having a university. Up Arbico!

Rushed in to see if yabatech is included.
Its evident they have forgotten the promise on yabatech and kadpoly.

All the strikes have been wasteful,i swear
*sigh* Long way to go.
Re: FG Upgrades Four Colleges Of Education To Varsities by mandax: 9:21pm On May 20, 2015
A campus of Alvan Ikoku College of Education was opened in Orlu by Mbakwe government in the 1980s after spending millions of Naira to realize the campus.

As soon as Mbakwe left office, the Orlu campus was closed down, and students became massed up again in Owerri.

If the Orlu campus was allowed, today it would have helped to accommodate more for the now upgraded AIFCE.

Looks like in Imo state, there is a conspiracy by all that no other zone outside the state capital must have a university located in it.

This is unreasonable. The ones on ground he has not funded them. Fed poly and universities were on strike for months he couldnt do anything. Gej is a pretender.
