Xavi: Forever And Always A Legend by barcaboi(m): 12:41am On May 22, 2015 |
I wonder why the retirement and departure of Xavi from Barca has passed under the radar; likewise Gerrard's departure from Liverpool. Xavi is set to move to Qatar to play and also coach in preparation for Qatar's World Cup bid while Gerrard is moving to the MLS. Lampard also should be part of the midfield Legends taking a bow to another country to 'retire'. As a true Barca Boy; Xavi gets my focus and I rate him as one of the best Midfielders in the game because of what he achieved and how he played the game. A handful of players get to hang up their boots knowing they have won all that can in football. Lionel Messi still searches for his World Cup medal, Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to dream about that Champions League trophy, and Steven Gerrard departs Liverpool FC without ever lifting the Premier League trophy. Xavi Hernández, however, has nothing left to accomplish. Xavi leaves behind a legacy that many will gaze upon in the future and wonder how El Maestro managed to achieve so much in such a competitive age. And we, as witnesses to this historic career, can only be thankful that we were lucky enough to enjoy this man at work. Below is a list of his records: ●Xavi won 23 titles with FC Barcelona, the most decorated Spanish player in history. ●Xavi is the player with most official appearances for Barcelona (764), with Carles Puyol (593) and Migueli (549) next on the list. ●Xavi won 475 of his 764 games (62.17%) with Barcelona, drawing in 122 and losing 167. ●Xavi’s 764 appearances include 504 in La Liga and 156 in the Champions League, the most in the history of FC Barcelona. ●Xavi scored 85 goals for Barcelona. ●Xavi has 133 Spain caps to his name, scoring 12 goals in the process. Honors – Barcelona: 8 La Liga titles 3 Champions League trophies 2 Copa del Rey trophies 6 Spanish Super Cups 2 European Super Cups 2 Club World Cups Honors – Spain: 1 FIFA World Cup – 2010 2 UEFA European Football Championships – 2008, 2012 Summer Olympics Silver Medal – Sydney 2000 FIFA Confederations Cup Silver Medal – 2014 Individual Awards: FIFA Balon d’Or 3rd place: 2010, 2011 Balon d’Or Bronze award: 2009 FIFA World Player of the Year: 3rd place – 2009 Onze de Bronze: 2011 Euro 2008 Player of the Tournament UEFA Best Player in Europe Award: 2nd place – 2011 FIFFA/FIFPro World XI: 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 FIFA World Cup Dream Team: 2010 UEFA Champions League Final MotM: 2009 La Liga Midfielder of the Year: 2009, 2010, 2011 La Liga Spanish Player of the Year: 2005 La Liga Player of the Year: 2nd place – 2010, 3rd place – 2011 La Liga Breakthrough Player of the Year: 2005 Euro Team of the Tournament: 2008, 2012 UEFA Team of the Year: 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 FIFA Club World Cup: Silver Ball – 2011, Bronze Ball – 2009 For a combination of club and national team achievements, Xavi is arguably the most successful player of all time. Eight leagues, three Champions League trophies, and three major international tournaments is unmatched by anyone, and only his teammates with Spain and Barcelona come close. Of non- Spanish players, the most comparable is probably Franz Beckenbauer, who won three European Cups, as well as five Bundesliga trophies, a World Cup and a Euro Cup. Still, at the end of the day, this list of honors and awards will never be enough to reflect the player Xavi was. Modern football is for some reason obsessed with numbers and stats, tools of evaluation that are too basic to comprehend what Xavi does on a football pitch. El Capitán will be remembered as the living embodiment of the Barcelona system, the style many believe is the way football should be played. And for that, Xavi will remain a legend in the eyes of culés. Now let’s add two more titles to this long list. For Xavi. www.totalbarca.com/2015/statistics/xavi-forever-and-always-a-legend/ |
