The problem has never been about removal or not.

It has always been about the accountability of the part that was initially removed and how such removal has impacted positively on the lives of ordinary Nigerian.

You cannot remove subsidy, when you are only freeing more loose funds for some people to steal, at the expense of all. If government had tangible things to.point out to as the dividend of the removal, people will buy into it

I cannot remember anything the SURE-P achieved and USD20billion developed wings. Won't it have been better for the money to be used for payment of subsidy, rather than ending up in the bank account of devilish few

Another good way to see it.

Comments like this piss me off. So, how do we know that Buhari's govt will not loot the loose funds

That is why I suggested that subsidy stays so that we can suffer it together.

So, because we do not know if Buhari will loot the subsidy funds is a good justification to continue to enrich some cabals?

The cabal did not deceive anybody.

Has GEJ punished any member of the cabal despite their indictment?

What did GEJ do with that partial subsidy removal? Some people sat down and ate it as usual.

Are the protesters not right after all?

Which courts pronounced judgments on any of them?
Or you think this is some criminal military junta?

Nigeria is a corrupt country.
The courts and their judges are not spared.

Bro, God doesn't build nations. He's been intervening in our affairs for years, but we're NOT doing our part. That's the problem!

We are almost only preoccupied with the gains of the moment without sparing a moment's thought for the future.

In 2012, GEJ tries to do the painful but right thing, but he was resisted and given names. The cabal, like noblezone wrote on a thread, deceived the gullible; and here we are still dancing around the same issue.

They will soon come to the realities of the times we are in.
Their eyes go soon clear.

6. [color=#000099]My fellow Nigerians, the truth is that we are all faced with two basic choices with regard to the management of the downstream petroleum sector: either we deregulate and survive economically, or we continue with a subsidy regime that will continue to undermine our economy and potential for growth, and face serious consequences.

7. A.[/b]

That is not the whole truth, with all due respect. Deregulation is by its very name an invitation to oppresive irregularities. we are not talking about onions and pepper that can be left to market forces. the ideal term is liberalization as we have in the banking industry. The current price of oil demonstrates that removal of subsidy cabal will only create a marketers' cartel. either way corruption is the problem. Is govt subsidizing cement? why is the price going up? Fundamentals of demand and supply in oil industry involves transparent liberalization of the process, that is why we have Nigeria Extractive Industry Transparency Act. What does it take to import? what does it take to tank? what are the incidental cost? Who qualifies to import? who verifies? What is the arbitration process? When you keep all these process in the dark how can any other policy work in complete anarchy? Total for instance will rather refine crude than import products.

Think about it: will deregulation open a floodgate of supply? No. so it remains a sellers market. if it doest how about standard. Every sector currently enjoys arbitrary price regime, tarrifs, interest, profits name it.

The major mistake of GEJ then was the sudden removal of the subsidy without adequate sensitization of the nation.

It was completely wrong for any government, more so a democratic one, to just wake up and announce to the whole nation that subsidy has been removed without having discussed the plan with the majority of the stakeholders.

No one will accept it in their right mind!

They tried but Nigerians did not want to hear the explanations.

I believe "most" recent scarcity is not caused by the oil marketers but the strike embarked upon by NUPENG/PENGASSAN to protest the sale of some oil blocks by the FG.

Or can you explain the sudden scarcity of diesel and kerosene, are they subsidised too?

Before you blame the "Occupy" movement, has the FG explained the sudden increase in subsidy money from N0.4T to about N1.8T in 2011? Or don't you think we deserve to know?

Is the function of the judges to bring them to court?

Can you remember what EFCC said about corruption concerning GEJ, when they were complaining about his body language?

Can someone explain why the price of diesel remain unchanged (before recent scarcity) even though the price of crude oil is almost halved since late last year?

Hmm!! The Jonathanian spin machinery at work. You guys now want to blame what we're going through on the protests, you guys know you're not being truthful.

I wasn't back in Nigeria during the protests but if I'm wrong on the exact figures please correct me, before the removal petrol was selling at N69/ltr right?? It shot up to N140/ltr (again pls correct me if I'm not getting it right) then it went down to N97/ltr. It never went back down the N69 it took off from. What does this mean? Just doing basic math it means the FG used to subsidize a total of N71/ltr (a lot of people still don't agree with how they came up with that) after the protest they started subsidizing N43/ltr with a savings of N28/ltr. The questions many Nigerians are asking now is what have they done with the N28/ltr. To ask even more questions, we must have had additional savings because the price of crude fell sharply meaning we started saving more on the subsidy payments, where has all that money gone to? After all these savings why is subsidy payment increasing instead of decreasing?? Then if the scarcity is caused by those that were against the removal of subsidy for petrol, then why is Kerosene and Diesel scarce as well?

Buhari has always maintained that whatever decisions he will take will first be informed to major stakeholders and seek their understanding.

Given this approach, I doubt if your protest will have any effect thereafter.

The major stakeholders need that information to hoard the products.

In fact, the stakeholders sponsored the rallies ..if not for the insistence of GEJ and NOI, petrol will still be @N67 today.

Op is wrong.
There's no subsidy in Kerosene and diesel.GEJ reintroduced it.

The so called subsidy removal was just a price increase.

The reason Nigerians frowned at the total removal of subsidy was a case of TRUST. Every1 knew that the rate of corruption and embezzlement of public funds in GEJs govt was alarming! It would be a case of stealing from the poor to give the rich! GEJ lacked the integrity and moral rectude to pronounce such...you dont give your belongings to criminals to keep for you! What happened to the money realised from the partial removal? Did you not see how SURE-P and YOUWIN programmes were fraudulent and highly mismanaged?? If GEJ and his govts integrity hasnt been in question then, Nigerians would have not blinked at that proposal...so dont blame ANYBODY. However, I support buhari to take it off TOTALLY, cos i know that he doesnt depend on sycophants to make his decisions..
