The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has formally served the Senator-elect for Ogun East Senatorial district, Buruji Kashamu, a notice by the United States government, demanding his extradition for drug-trafficking offences.

The service was said to have been made on June 1 in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/479/2015 with a copy made available to the Chief Judge, Federal High Court.

The agency has been at loggerheads with the Ijebu-born politician over an attempt to facilitate his extradition to the US.

Tens of NDLEA officials had laid a six-day siege to the Lagos residence of the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in Lekki, Lagos, before they vacated on May 28, two days after a Federal High Court in the state mandated them to do same.

The agency, in a statement, had described the court order, passed by Justice Ibrahim Buba, as “inconsequential and diversionary,” insisting that it was only “performing its statutory responsibilities.”

‎On Wednesday, May 27, Justice Okon Abang of a Federal High Court had passed another ruling prohibiting security agencies in Nigeria from “unlawful” arrest and forceful extradition of Kashamu. ‎The court equally awarded N10,000 as cost against the Chairman of the agency, Ahmadu Giade, for failing to appear in court.

Kashamu had instituted the fundamental rights enforcement action in April alleging that there was a plot by his political opponents, led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to use Nigerian security agencies to abduct and forcibly transport him to the US to stand trial before Judge Norgle.

He had prayed to the court that the move amounted to a violation of his rights to personal liberty, freedom of association and freedom of movement.

Now there is a bigger problem for this guy. He never thought Jonathan was going to lose the election, if not he wouldn't hav contested the election. And another option is that he should hav disappeared immediately he heard the declared winner because no how he was going to escape this impunity-less Buhari govt.
Well, there is still time to pass tru Cotonou since the NDLEA has left his home. If he tries to go for one yeye sitting by claiming Senator, I pity his hustle.

Buruji Kasamu, why can't you accept the offer to be transported to a country where many Nigerians are fasting day and night and praying to be.

NDLEA messed up initially and gave Buruji enough time to either vanish or put up a stiffer resistance.

Whoever led that ops goofed big time and should submit his badge. There are better ways to kill a rat without spilling blood.

Whatever they have now does not make any sense if they could gain asses into his bedroom round him up or corner him into his bathroom and just sit on his bed pleading for him to come out was inexperience and senseless.

Kashamu, would miss the businesses in Abuja.
Just imagine selling the stuff in the senate chamber. It would lead to a better legislation.

But the courts of competent jurisdiction have already ruled against extradicting this man. What hell does NDLEA still want after they messed up at the firts attempt?

It seems they are trying to beat June 6 when the new Senators will be inaugurated failing which will make it practically impossible as no country will want to extradite its serving Senator.

It will be a shame on any African Country including Nigeria to extradite its serving elected Senator to a Western Country no matter the offense before his/her terms expires.

Even Jonathan didn't know he will loose with Kashamu in the south west. He thought Kashamu was more relevant than OBJ otherwise, he would have done OBJ's bid by exposing Kashamu. That was one of his greatest undoings. With a new government in place headed by a leader who's not ready to interfere in the judicial process, extradition is sacrosanct for Kashamu.
