The Kogi State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has said that the State Government is owing the Basic Education Teachers in the State the sum of N23 billion.

According to the state NUT Chairman, Comrade Suleman Abdullahi, who narrated the sad experience the teachers are passing through, about N8.7billion of this debt are arrears of their four years leave allowance.

He said the backlog of unpaid grants to the teachers is demotivating them from discharging their duties diligently.

The NUT leader charged the State Government to show more commitment and be proactive on the welfare of teachers.

Abdullahi said: “At present, teachers can not pay medical expenses of their loved ones nor feed well while they are being ejected from their houses due to inability to pay rent.

“Government has done not less than six screening exercises since 2008 to date but the question is why has there not been official position by the government on all these reports? We expect the government to use the report to determine the number of teachers, pay four years leave grant, pay outstanding from the various percentages, implement promotion and pay salaries as at when due,” he added.

The state is in sham.
People are complaining about T.A Orji, they didn't know that this pilot turn governor is worst. My mother is a teacher, so I know what she is passing through.
No meaningful development in Kogi state since his assumption in office in 2012.
The worst thing is that he is not always in the state.
Thank God Pdp is no longer in power at the center for him to be rigged in 2016 election.
I can't wait to see the extremist bolted out of office.
