The division within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) worsened on Thursday, June 4, 2015 after lawmakers-elect elected on the platform of the party boycotted a scheduled meeting with the party leadership.

The National Publicity secretary of the APC, Lai Mohammed had on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 issued a notice for the crucial meeting scheduled to hold at the International Conference Centre, ICC, Abuja between 10 am and 2 pm.

Many believe the meeting was called in order for the party leadership to unite the different factions of lawmakers that have emerged as a result of the battle for the leadership of the incoming 8th Senate, fearing that the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) might play a fast one and capitalise on the in-house bickering and present a candidate.

However, sources close to the caucus of the APC lawmakers revealed to The Trent that the legislators-elect chose to stay away from the meeting as they fear the party leadership might want to “bully” them into supporting two particular candidates for Senate president and House Speaker.

If only Doyin Okupe was not hasty about his remark of the APC crumbling like a pack of cards within one year after their merger, his wish would have come to pass. In his words "a party full of individuals with different ideologies and interest can never be united". This statement was what spurred the APC on to make sure they confute him and others who might have been nursing same thought. Now that the elections are over and the essence of their merger is achieved, this appears to be the time for everyone of them to show their true colour and prove Doyin right. Anyway, we are still watching but whatever they do, they should put the citizens first.
