Saraki's Election Was A Shame-akume by tinziemaine(m): 9:54pm On Jun 09, 2015 |
Senator George Akume of Benue State has given his opinion about the election of Senator Bukola Saraki and Senator Ike Ekweremadu as Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively. Senator George Akume Akume who is the chosen deputy senate president of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held a press conference in his residence earlier today where he briefed news men about his stand on the election. Akume alleged the election of Saraki and Ekweremadu is devoid of due process and also stressed that he had nothing against all those involved in the elections he described as a “sham”. He said “People think they can use money to subvert democracy, but all that is rubbish and at the appropriate time we will speak.” Using his personal website to pass on the message, he urged his supporters to remain calm and not to be angry or worry about the elections, but he urged them to worry for those who he said have subverted democracy and in due time, will face justice. He affirmed that the election will be pursued to the latter till the right thing is done. Saraki who represents Kwara Central Senatorial District in the mupper chamber was was elected unopposed by 57 of 108 Senators, with 51 APC Senators missed Meanwhile, the APC has categorically rejected the results of the elections saying in a statement made available earlier today, that the election was “unacceptable”. In a similar vein, President Buhari has reacted to the election of Saraki, saying it was important for the process of leaders election to be duly followed as initiated by the party. Nonetheless, the president affirmed that a constitutional process had somewhat occurred. |
