A consultant psychiatrist Dr Vincent Udenze has raised the alarm over the increasing dependence of youths in Nigeria on hard drugs to assist them face the harsh realities of life.

The UK-based doctor and president of Reconnect noted that his organisation, a group founded to increase awareness on mental health, has written President Muhammadu Buhari in attempts to get public support to remove stigma associated with mental health.

During its awareness dinner in Abuja, Reconnect focused on mental health for young people exposed to genetic and social factors that lead to depression or drug dependence for which stigma prevents them from getting help.

Udenze said: “You cannot be creating jobs for the youths without making sure the youths are fine.
“We have realized that youths are wasting away, unable to retain their jobs, struggling because they are dependent on drugs,” he said.

when d law against drugs has not being enforced locally. it will continue to rise.

one of my Boss hates drugs but bad people arround him always do dat shit daily arround him, he use to report them and did everything to stop them but to no possitivity later, d man himself starts his own drug addiction. also it is happening everywhere as we speak. it is very infectious amongst the peer groups more than virus

You are wrong not world wide. not everwhere in nigeria they do drugs. go to some places in d north, u cannot try to smoke or take alcohol there.or else it will be your last smoke as a pot head. likewise some coutries culture/traditions does not permit drugs like Indonasia

Those northern boys hardly drink. All they take is codein, Roche and rophynol with shisha. And i Am very very sure 80% northern boys pop all kinda pills coz it dosent smell but northern boys are real crack heads.
