Senate President Bukola Saraki has denied that federal lawmakers get N9billion wardrobe allowance.

He also said there were plans by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to reduce salaries and allowances of federal lawmakers.

Saraki, who stated this on his Twitter handle yesterday after meeting with the RMAFC boss, said the annual wardrobe allowance for each senator is N506,600 per annum, about N2.25 million ‎for their four-year tenure.

He also absolved lawmakers of indiscriminately allocating monies to themselves, and said that RMAFC had the sole responsibility of fixing their remuneration, adding that the Commission would soon publish details of their allowances on its website.

“RMAFC was in my office to clarify (that) wardrobe allowance is N506,600 per senator.‎ I have just been informed that RMFAC will be publishing details of allowances on their website.

“With the current challenge we are facing as a nation, RMAFC will be reviewing allowances to reflect the current economic trend. Fixing remuneration is sole responsibility of RMAFC,” the Senate president said.

LEADERSHIP recalls that there were media reports that a member of House Representatives collects N17.5 million as wardrobe allowance annually, while a senator receives about N21.5 million.

That's alright but hope they won't be milking ministers, DGs of agencies, commission's who come for budget approvals.

Bit by bit, we are getting there. In the past we would have shouted and raged to no avail. The government is becoming interactive and responsive to the cry of the masses...thanks to the free press, the watchful masses, social media and the spirit of change!

The NASS is just too expensive for a country where civil servants are being owed over 6 months salary. The cost of maintaining our NASS members is immoral, wicked and shrouded in secrecy. NLC, civil societies, student unions and every well meaning Nigerian should join hands and condemn this. Protests should not be ruled out.

Saraki will be wishing he never staged a coup to get the SP position,he has unfortunately sandwiched himself between two immovable forces; his colleagues who want to retain the status quo& "supposed enemies" who have joined hands in public outcry.

In this cause, political affiliation, tribal & religious differences have been pushed aside & almost every nigerian is agitated.....

Monkey is tired of baboon chopping everything.

Next battle is the constituency allowance.

This guys shouldn't collect more than what a federal permanent secretary is collecting. The money is just too much. Whenever they are on that their sit, They think much of money than the job that brought them to National Assembly.

Trust me, if their salary and allowances are well slashed at least by 50 percent. They won't be killing and maiming each other to reach such a post again

They should learn from other lawmakers around the world

Our lawmakers are the most paid in the world and whereas our civil servant is one of the least paid in Africa.

Can you see the big contrast and that it is not healthy for the Nation

The social media itself will be the real opposition party where no one need a card to belong. They collect constituency funds on our behalf and we all belong to a constituency, so we all owe ourselves the obligation to mark them well, we should make effort to know how much was allocated and where it is being applied, should the money get missing in action, na to shout ole! ole! on top social media!

I still have to blame GEJ and his last administration for this particular nonsense we have at our hand.

The 2015 budget which provided for this bogus allowances was prepared and passed during a time of crisis already in Nigeria. It was a time when many states and even the FG was already finding it very difficult to meet their financial commitments. As such, common economic sense should have prevailed by reducing all recurrent expenses as much as possible (at least by 40%).

What we got instead was to reduce capital expenditure further so that it became about 10% of our national budget while "nothing" happened to the recurrent expenses! To GEJ and his cohorts, they didn't care as far as they got bank alert for fat cash credit in their account. Such is the economic wizardry of NOI and GEJ that we couldn't even increase our savings in the four years that crude sold for above $100 per barrel on the average.

But as they say, "GEJ is a good man BUT a very bad administrator". Thankfully, change is here.

My people, wake up from your foolish slumber, stand up and be alert.
Before the election most of us were screaming "change", now is this among the change we yearned for?
Tinubu who was doing all the strategic planning didn't tell his wife not to collect her share of the 9 billion plus other allowances.
The God forsaken people we voted for are turning a blind eye to our people.

How long is it going to continue like this?
How long are we going to keep feeding these people for doing almost nothing?

I've said it times without number, these people are trying to remove the Nigerian middle class citizens, hereby putting a very wide gap between the rich and the poor!

They are all united because of the money, ragardleSs of whatever party affiliation.
Our basic problems are our elite and the west!
Once we can get a set of people who will take along the masses and disregard the western policies.

We need a little bit of radicalism
Someone called it "civil disobedience"
Call it whatever you want!
We can't keep feeding a house that is full of gluttons who aren't in turn giving us back anything.

Nigerians Wake Up!
This is 2015!
What plans do we have for our generations?
If we don't make moves no one would.
