Nigeria’s Four Refineries To Begin Operation Next Month – NNPC

Nigeria’s four refineries will resume production next month, spokesperson of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has said.
Ohi Alegbe on Thursday said the four refineries – two in Port Harcourt, one in Kaduna and the other one in Warri will be fully operational from next month.

Speaking to AFP, Alegbe said “the operations resume after a successful turn-around-maintenance (overhaul) of their facilities”.
“The turn-around-maintenance has been on for some time. We did not just want to make any noise about it. The refineries will start production as soon as they have delivery of crude oil for refining,” he said.
His statement raises hope of an end to perennial petrol shortages that have plagued Africa’s largest crude producer.
The NNPC has four refineries — two in Port Harcourt in the south, one in northern Kaduna and another in southern Warri, with a combined installed capacity of 445,000 barrels per day.

A network of pipelines and depots located throughout the country link these refineries.
Nigeria produces a massive two million barrels of crude oil a day, but has to export it due to a lack of working refineries. It then imports fuel back into the country at international market prices — a situation blamed on corruption and mismanagement.

To cushion the blow on the general population, the government sells fuel on the streets at subsidised prices, and makes up for the higher amounts spent by importers by reimbursing them the difference — a system seen as rife with false claims and overpayments.
Last month, a crippling fuel shortage almost grounded Nigeria to a halt, as fuel importers and marketers shut their depots to protest some $1 billion (900 million euros) in unpaid reimbursements.

Black market and legitimate petrol vendors did a brisk trade, selling at around 300 naira ($1.5; 1.3 euros) a litre — well above the officially-set price of 87 naira.

In January 2012, the government tried to end the subsidies, causing petrol prices to more than double. It was ultimately forced to reinstate the payments after tens of thousands of people took to the streets in violent protests that left more than a dozen dead.

Alegbe said the resumption of refinery activity “will significantly improve the supply of petroleum products in the country.”

Que: What happened to the refineries before now

Ans: Jonathan bastardised and impeded the refineries due to corruption and his support of fake petroleum subsidy.

Thank God we now have a reliable president in Buhari.

God bless Buhari.

Government should focus more on production of Gas for Electricity n Protection of Pipelines, This would Increase Power n Decrease Demand for fuel, Then Fuel Prices Can Increase... (subsidy Removed)

Many Nigerians don't give a damn if dey pay #150 for Automobile Fuel so far "light dey our House"

Wow the kind of news I love to hear...way forward.
But lemme laugh...hahahahah!!!
Why did I laugh, because some scrupulous, incredulous individuals will politicise this and tell us it is Buhari's handwork, despite the fact that na-ejighi otu onwa aru bridge.
I just politicised it but don't mind.
I have a dream that Nigeria will stop importing refined petroleum but export.

Good.

And before I continue....a word of apology to PDP/GEJ supporters here.Looks like they were really fixing the refineries. Good job from the PDP.

Still...in my opinion, we need more new refineries. And somehow.....we need to prepare for the no oil future by investing heavily in science and technology. Especially as we already have a car that can run on hydrogen cells alone (and produces steam as exhaust....).

We will continue to reap rewards from GEJ's Transformation for the next 10yrs.

Buhari dare not claim this as his achievement else the thunder that will strike him is busy eating pounded yam and awaiting instructions.

hahahahahahaha i thought the GEJ led adminstration said it wont be possible until 2017, they must have been feeding Jonathan with the wrong information, these refineries have always been working, they use the refineries to refine their own crude and sell it to back to marketers with subsidy still being paid on it, No wonder Buhari said subsidy is a scam, you can imagine the federal govt hasnt even pay them or said anything and see as oil is flowing .

I guess GEJ had a good mind he isnt just strong enough to rule this country

When a leader is good, good thngs happen to the people and when a leader is clueless the people will be clueless. For the past gud 16yearz Nigeria has never for 1ce refinined her own crude oill but nw we r about to do it .Our past leaders do nt have our interest to heart but their own interest.Since Buhari is diff, pls lets give him the support, lets stop critizing him and lets allow him to work.Bad belle no go take us go anywhere. At least,Nigerians deserve to enjoy,we deserve the best thngs of life be you a pdp supporter,Apc,kowa or any oda party, lets work together and encourage Buhari.Internet bashing will not help us,critising him will not help us,badmouthing and spoiling his government will not help us.How would we fill if we have our own refinery,at least 8 to 9hrs lite,60% of the youth are gainfully employed,20% reduction in corruption,50% good roads. We voted 4 "change"lets stand by it,embrace it and support it.Whether u like Buhari or not,pls he is the 1 in office lets give him a chance for a beta tommorrow,he kant do it alone wo our support.Good goverment begins with you and I #enoughofBuharibashing# and if anybody thinks they kan do beta, then they should come out and contest 2019.Sai baba
