Don't Call Me The Leader Of Yoruba Gani Adams, Gives Reasons Why Is Tinubu by whizpet: 8:50am On Jun 20, 2015 |
“An army of sheep led by a lion is better than an army of lions led by a sheep”- Attributable to Alexander the great. The 2015 Presidential and National Assembly elections may have come and gone leaving Nigerians Basking in the euphoria of the successes and many positives recorded in the polls. It is however, imperative for Nigerians to be circumspect in their actions and put things in perspective. As a believer in the Divine, I ascribe the successes recorded in the 2015 elections to God Almighty because there is no denying the fact that the general outcome of the election is nothing short of a miracle. The way things turned out has confounded a lot of people especially the naysayers who predicted and anticipated a negative and violent outcome. We give God all the glory. Kudos must be given to Nigerians for their general conduct during and after the elections and for taking their destinies into their own hands. INEC under the leadership of Professor Attahiru Jega deserves to be commended despite few lapses in the exercise. The role played by the security personnel, members of the press and election observes should be acknowledged and appreciated. The outgoing President of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and the PDP deserves to be praised for conceding defeat. His actions have laid a marker not only for subsequent Nigerian leaders but African leaders in general. There is no denying the fact that the character, discipline, integrity and zero tolerance for corruption of General Muhammadu Buhari (GMB) was a major reason for the success of the APC. His resilience, persistence and doggedness is a lesson for the younger generation to imbibe. Osibanjo, Amaechi, Lai Mohammed, Oshiomole, Okorocha and Ngige among others and the APC as a whole should be complimented for achieving a historic feat few people thought possible. Having said that, the real McCoy and the architect of the success of the APC is none other than the Asiwaju himself, Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) (even though he couldn’t have done it without GMB and the calibre of people that formed the alliance). Let me make it clear that I don’t know him and I am not trying to patronize him. Matter of fact, I am a Christian and Kuteb by tribe from Taraba state in North- eastern Nigeria. The only thing I have in common with him is that we both studied accounting related courses in university and even at that, he finished with a distinction while I made a 3rd class. My primary reason for focusing on BAT is because Nigeria’s biggest problem as a nation is failed leadership and that though BAT is not perfect, Nigerian youths can learn and imbibe the positive aspects of his political leadership. BAT’s was a founding member of the SDP and was elected a Senator under that platform in 1992 under the same platform to represent Lagos west Senatorial District. After the 1993 election was annulled and the coup of 1993, he was again part of those that established the prodemocracy group NADECO which made him go on exile for a while. He returned to contest for the Lagos state Governorship in 1998 and was elected Governor where he served for 8 years. His ability to identify and nurture capable hands into positions of Authority is second to none as evidenced by the leaders he helped to install in the states controlled by the then ACN thereby fulfilling Ralph Nader’s premise that …”the function of leadership is to produce more leaders not followers” Norman Schwarzzkopf once opined that “Leadership is a potent combination of Strategy and Character, but that if you must be without one, be without strategy”. BAT’s political leadership style from my point of view is a combination of both with more emphasis on the strategic aspect. I am of the opinion that the aforementioned attributes together with his vision, sagacity and his grassroot appeal combine to make him the best (GOAT: Greatest Of All Time) political leader Nigeria has ever produced with all due respect to people like Herbert Macauley, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sir Tafawa Balewa, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, General Yakubu Gowon,Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, General Muhammadu Buhari, General Murtala Muhammed and Chief MKO Abiola among others. The reality of my assertion is not farfetched and I have been able to outline below some of the reasons why I consider him the greatest Nigerian political leader so far: 1. He was a founding member of the Social Democratic Party and became a Senator under the same platform in 1993. 2. He was part of those that established Nadeco, a pro- democracy group in the dark days of Abacha’s reign despite the risks involved. 3. He emerged governor of the most populous state in Nigeria under the AD in 1999 4. He was the only surviving governor from the AD after the Tsunami of the PDP swept over the southwest during Obasanjo’s regime in 2003. 5. He was able to hold sway despite Obasanjo’s under arm tactics and persecutions. 6. He groomed and appointed Raji Fashola(SAN) who has performed relatively well and is arguably Nigeria’s best performing governor since 1999 giving the enormity of the challenges associated with governing a mega state like Lagos State 7. He was instrumental in installing the governors in the whole south west and Edo State with the exception of Ondo in 2011 and Ekiti in 2014. 8. His Wife is currently a serving Senator in Nigeria 9. He was able to establish the AC from the ashes of the AD and ACN from AC transforming it into a regional powerhouse and a party to be reckoned with. 10. He brings in learned and capable hands into leadership positions as demonstrated by the calibre of leaders in the ACN (not people like Godswill Orubebe). 11. He contributed to the emergence of GEJ in 2011 by supporting the PDP despite his party fielding a candidate in the person of Nuhu Ribadu 12. He played a very crucial role in in forming a Mega party (ACN) by initiating an alliance with the (ANPP, CPC, APGA and disgruntled members of the PDP). 13. He sacrificed his ambition of becoming a vice presidential candidate in favour of Mr Osibanjo. 14. He established himself as the political leader of the Yoruba Nation despite holding no political position having left power in 2007.He was able to trump people like Chief Obasanjo who is the longest serving president in Nigerias history after ruling for about 11 years. 15. He together with GMB, Amaechi, Rochas, Oshiomole and others masterminded the defeat of the so called Africa’s largest political party and an incumbent President for the first time in Nigeria’s history. 16. The victory of the APC marks a new dawn in the history of Nigeria and opens up a vista of opportunities and renewed hope to our beloved country. It is not yet uhuru yet and the journey has only just begun. Time shall tell if the APC would jettison the great opportunity to transform our beloved nation on the altar of selfishness like the PDP did or move our nation forward. If BAT and his associates put Nigerians first and sacrifice their selfish desires, then and only then would he become the greatest Political leader Nigeria has ever had!!! |

I don't like that tinubu of a guy, but he's a hell of a story! but to say he's a leader of the Yorubas is outdoing it. Yorubas are too sophisticated to follow just anybody because of their achievement. I haven't seen them do this after hearing about awolowo who was selfless and focused only on his people's progress. tinubu or obasanjo couldn't fit in this...most of the ones we have today are only interested in how much influence they could gather, and the amount of power they can wield. not to talk of just amassing wealth that bulges the roof, making way to hell... |

If some youth on nairaland will stop their ignorance and their unfounded criticism of Tinubu and try to discover what made him this thick, I believe they attain an unimaginable height in life. The way to arrive at your destination fast is finding out from those who has made success in the journey. |
