APC State Chairmen in Crucial Meeting over N’Assembly Crisis by DONSMITH123(m): 11:46am On Jun 26, 2015
About 28 Chairmen of the state chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Thursday went into a meeting in Abuja trying to take decisions on urgent matters affecting the party.

The meeting is coming at the time the Labour Party (LP) condemned the behaviour of the lawmakers on the platform of the APC in the House of Representatives, which led to the disruption of proceedings at the lower legislative chamber.

THISDAY gathered that the state chairmen summoned their meeting to among others, deliberate on the crisis in the National Assembly and to articulate positions, which would be presented to the party’s national leadership.

According to a party source, the chairmen are worried that the party has not had its National Executive Council Meeting (NEC) since the last general election, which it won the presidency.

As at the time of filing this report, the chairmen were still holed-up in their meeting at a hotel located in Zone 6 area of Abuja.

However, journalists who gathered at the venue of the meeting waiting to be briefed on the outcome of their deliberation were asked to go and come tomorrow because the discussions would not be concluded till late in the night.

The chairmen had earlier met on Wednesday and expressed support for the stand taken by President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie Oyegun over the crisis in the federal legislature.

The chairmen particularly commended the party leadership for recognising the emergence of the new leadership at the National Assembly as a means of staving off further crisis.

In the meeting convened under the auspices of the Forum of APC state chairmen to review the challenges that bedeviled the party before, during and after the 2015 general election, the chairmen said: “They totally support the decision taken by President Buhari to accept the outcome of the leadership election in the National Assembly despite the shortcomings.

The communiqué issued and signed by the chairman of the Kano State APC, and acting Chairman of the forum, Umar Haruna Mohammed, at the end of their meeting in Abuja, said: “We totally aligned ourselves with the President’s position regarding the leadership of the National Assembly.”

They urged the party leadership to ensure that funds are made available to state chapters without delay in order to help them defray their liabilities in with the resolutions of the National Executive Council (NEC).

“Chairman sir, we acknowledge the enormity of the responsibilities placed on the office of the chairman and as such we urge you to brace up and be alive to the challenges so as to move the party forward. You should always see us as partners in progress and your own foot soldiers as we pray for more success in future, “ they said.

However, the Labour Party National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, accused the APC of unnecessarily overheating the polity and endangering the nation’s nascent democracy over its mishandling of the leadership crisis rocking the national assembly.

He regretted that the protracted leadership crisis engulfing APC lawmakers has culminated in yesterday’s disruption of proceedings at the House of Representatives.

Abdulsalam said the leadership of the APC should respect the tenets of democracy playing out at the national assembly and should stop endangering democracy with the godfatherism and imposition syndrome.

While pledging support to the leadership of the national assembly, Abdulsalam urged the APC leadership to accept the emergence of Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as Senate President and Speaker of the House respectively.

“The Labour Party observed that with time that since the APC took over the reign of government as the ruling party, especially in the two chambers of the National Assembly, it has been one crisis or another. We are disturbed, concerned and getting embarrassed that the image those claiming to be agent of change are giving Nigeria and Nigerians is portraying us in bad light before the international community,” he said.

''So many blocked, Muted, Unfollowed then Insulted & Abused me over my insistence that this change is a poisoned chalice. Have I been vindicated? By APC operating a non-zoning policy, APC assumes an omniscient power to decide who is best to lead the NASS, at the detriment of itself.
Actually I don't see why Senators shouldn't be allowed to choose their leaders. Just as a President should choose most of his Ministers.
Let us also remember that these Men walked out on GEJ and Party Officials. APC welcomed them. What you sow, you reap. You hear hypocrites say I voted PMB not APC, abeg abeg, It's too early pls: if you didn't vote Buhari in ANPP or CPC, just shut up.

Party supremacy cannot be enforced in the absence of party vision. The vision of APC was to kick GEJ out. GEJ is out, APC is visionless.
The same folks that said "Pa Buhari is not the leader of APC" are saying "Pa Buhari should intervene".

APC is like a bus filled with different passengers and different destinations. Saraki and Dogara have collected their Change and alighted.
The ruling class fighting isn't much of a problem for the future. It is our friends that are justifying the madness we should fear.
APC lacks a common ideology beyond anti-GEJism. Bad as e bad, PDP had national unity as an ideology which all of its members adhered to.
If there is vision, you can enforce party supremacy because all members are committed to the same vision and ideology.
So an APC tweep can tell me "that they fought is not important but why they fought"??

Those justifying APC pausing Nigeria for one month can justify murder.
Every stupidity and foolishness of APC cannot be justified with "PDP also did it". As many will have us believe.

PDP was voted out. APC should run on its own steam enough of the excuses''.
