Same Sex Marriage: Preparing For America's New Foreign Policy “twists"..? by Duhduhduh: 9:34am On Jun 28, 2015

America of today has come a long way from the America of "In God We Trust". Obama is a strange guy - one moment he is singing the "Amazing Grace", the other moment, he is saying concerning same sex marriage acceptance in America, “This ruling is a victory for America." The weird thing is that one senses some sort of 'psychological adjustment' of Africans to this whole affair - or else why won't Africans come out clearly to condemn this affair? Are we trying to be "politically correct" in an emerging "new world order"? Or are we just "weary" - faced with poverty, hunger, wars, & what-have-you? Are our governments 'scared' of IMF, EU, World Bank loan approvals and grants from European donor agencies?...the ICC? - Or just what? Well, I don't know...but somethng ain't right! Maybe the next phase will be how to 'legalise" marriage to their pet animals....(What will they think of next...these "civilised people"?).

Well, let's leave 'moralising' or normative look at the matter and let's hope that the churches, mosques, and even traditional religion will take it from there! (There are Christian (Biblical), Quranic, and indeed Ifa treatises and passages which do not support this proclivity which one has pointed out in another thread...However, reader is at liberty to do his/her own search and interpretation...)

[For crying out loud, Vladimir Putin the Russian President, former spymaster of atheist Soviet Union described the US move to legitimising same sex proclivities as "morally bankrupt" And in a Washington Times article titled "Who’s ‘godless’ now? Russia says it’s U.S. :Putin seizes on issue of traditional values", Marc Bennets, Washington Times Special Correspondent wrote:
"At the height of the Cold War, it was common for American conservatives to label the officially atheist Soviet Union a “godless nation.”
More than two decades on, history has come full circle, as the Kremlin and its allies in the Russian Orthodox Church hurl the same allegation at the West.
“Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a recent keynote speech. “Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation.”... Mr. Putin also portrayed Russia as a staunch defender of “traditional values” against what he depicted as the morally bankrupt West. Social and religious conservatism, the former KGB officer insisted, is the only way to prevent the world from slipping into “chaotic darkness.” As part of this defense of “Christian values,” Russia has adopted a law banning “homosexual propaganda”] Nuff said...

Now, with this development, there is most certainly going to be a new "twist" in U.S and indeed European foreign policy initiatives and relationships vis-a-vis Africa. Symptoms of which have already been seen in US frowning at Gambia, Uganda, and partially Nigeria for their anti-gay stance and legislation. For weaker and poorer African countries (dependant on US and European aid)are we not going to expect more "arm twisting" from the US and Europe to have them adopt similar "same sex" laws and proclivities for their nations? Notwithstanding their religious, cultural sensitivities?

As for the media, there is little we can do. From the era of campaigns for New International Information Order (N.I.I.O) which campaigned vigourously against a largely 'one-sided' flow of 'information' by the CNN's, v.O.A's, B.B.C's, Reuters, AFP's, etc on information 'manufactured and branded' from Europe swarming our media space, not much has changed really. So, largely, "authenticity" of info is based largely on what these media say....So, we can expect a new barrage of overt and subliminal information to ‘re-model' our people on this their preferred proclivity....Hmmm...

Another area of concern is our so called NGO's and Civil Society Organisations (CSO's). Many of these are largely driven by desire to access "donor funds" and have wittingly and unwittingly become tools of driving the foreign policy initiatives of the US and European nations as they tailor "programme and thematic areas" for which they will disburse funds to CSO's willing to drive these....from the political, medical, to whatever...So don't be surprised when you see a springing up of 'CSO's' clamouring for 'same sex rights' to fit in to the 'programme and thematic areas' of the donors who are more than willing to provide the "funding". (As they say, 'Put the sugar on the table...sooner or later, the ants will appear!)

So much for all that! What to do? It is now imperative for our think tanks such as our own "Chatam House" the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (N.I.I.A), the National Institute of Policy & Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Nigerian Institute for Social and Economic Research (NISER),etc to begin to work on Nigeria's response to the anticipated 'onslaught' when it comes...for it shall come, surreptitiously or overtly...

Recently, the Gausau Institute, held a strategic session with some governors of the north on Nigeria's leadership in Africa. (It would seem El-Rufai who was in attendance would be priming himself for the ‘next phase of political leadership' in Nigeria). Anyway, Nigeria's leadership should also begin to consider how to give direction and support to African nations when eventually confronted with this affair in its various manifestations in the face of US and European "pressure". (Funny, the Gusau Institute is headed by a European....Against the backdrop of many qualified Nigerians? Well, I guess, the world is a "global village"!)

We must also remind ourselves that the co-operation of other 'regional powers' in Africa in articulating an African response and position must be sought - South Africa, Egypt, Kenya readily come to mind.

So while our National Assembly men rip each other's clothes off their backs, practice Thai Kick boxing, and zoom off on vacation, we may want to turn to one another and say ..."Welcome to the New world Order..."
