Any way, i would have love the guy to remain in the position. He did not do anybody wrong. His only offence is that he made himself too visible ( by enganging in a lavish burial ceremony). This is what resulted in the media hype.I am in support of giving key government positions to as many as possible southsouth state citizens- irrespective of whoever it is. The nigerian state is not the exclusive asset of the north and the west. The south and east is part holders as well. It is only when fairness in powersharing is percieved this way that we can achieve even development across the federation- otherwise politicians will continue to be only interested in getting into power and not coming to change things for the better.
Sometimes the media feeds the public wit useless news as anenih did this, ibori did this, lulu did this- and all that. The truth is that we the people from the south south need people that can stand out and compete strongly with other folks in the politica arena of this country, if we are really serious about wanting developments to come to us. And you must know that- this can not be done with empty hands( we tried it before with KenSaro Wiwa of blessed memories-it did not favour us). You need all the resources (manpower, influence, money , political manipulations etc) to stand tall with the key players from other regions that have always been in the system .At the moment, if you are not a vicious fighter in the polity notting comes to you.Thats why if any one of us manage to get to the top- let us do our best to rally around them and give them our support. Instead of trying to be the good nigerian by shouting with others -crucify him. There is nottin that is been done fairly any where in the world today. You are expected to compete with others to get your fair share. Nobody will do anything for you. If they were fair with us - we will not have the problems we are experiencing in the niger delta today. All over the federation and abroad nigerians are finding various means to survive on their own. They dont get support from the state. The state is not concerned about you- Instead it feeds on you. Nigeria eats its babies.

Shall we now say just anybody either worthy or unworthy should be appointed to positions by reason of the areas they come from?

Read the story below very carefully and see whether your lamentations concerning this guy are justified:

Fugitive Fraudster Enaboifo Becomes Executive Director of Nigeria-Sao-Tome Joint Venture

Nigeria’s ailing president, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has appointed Emmanuel Olutokunbo Enaboifo as Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Nigeria-São Tomé & Principe Joint Development Authority. This is the body that manages the exceptionally rich area in oil and gas in the Joint Development Zone owned by both countries. Mr Enaboifo, a very close associate of former Delta State Governor, James Ibori is a fugitive from justice in the United States.

According to court papers made available to SaharaReporters, Mr Enaboifo was convicted of bank fraud in a US District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in 1986 on two counts of “Conspiracy to commit Bank fraud and Bank fraud –Aiding and Abetting.” Mr. Enaboifo who was then a student at Temple University in Philadelphia was arrested on August 8 1986 at 5702 North Oaks Boulevard, North Brunswick, New Jersey. He was then indicted and convicted by a federal grand jury, but he fled the United States before he could be sentenced.

A copy of the superseding indictment stated that, “ from on or about April 1 1986 to or about June 2, 1986, at Philadelphia, in Eastern District of Pennsylvania and elsewhere, defendants CHARLES OLA and OLUTOKUNBO ENABOIFO knowingly, intentionally and unlawfully did conspire, combine, confederate and agree together with each other, and with other persons known and unknown to this grand jury to attempt to execute a scheme and artifice to defraud Philadelphia Savings Fund Society (PSFS of moneys in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1344 (a) (1)”.

The court documents show that on September 3, 1986, a grand jury returned a superseding indictment against Olutokunbo Enaboifo and Charles Ola. However, by October 20, 1986 when Enaboifo appeared before the District Court, his co-defendant, Charles Ola had bolted. Enaboifo was then tried alone and on October 23, 1986, the jury returned verdicts of guilty against him on both counts. Sentencing was set for November 24, 1986 at 9:30 am, but on the day, Enaboifo failed to appear leading the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest. He was never found again and the US Secret Service thereafter entered his warrant in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

However, as recently as February 24 2004, the US Attorney’s office re-opened Enaboifo’s case and requested for sentencing in absentia through series of motions and sentencing memoranda. On April 15 2004 a judgment in a criminal case was entered against OLUTOKUNBO ENABOIFO of 8600 Lindbergh Blvd, Apartment #1907, Philadelphia, P 19153 in Case Number: CR 86-360-2. The judgment states that “Olutokunbo Enaboifo be sentenced to a term of six months incarceration for Counts one and two to run concurrently and that a fine of $1,000 be imposed and entered against the defendant”.

Mr. Enaboifo recently celebrated his 50th birthday in Lagos at his Parkview Estate, Ikoyi house, which is the house reportedly bought for him by James Ibori. As SaharaReporters has catalogued in regular reports, Mr. Enaboifo is one of the persons used by Ibori to fleece Delta State as he embarked on the most documented money-laundering scheme undertaken by any Nigerian public official. Mr. Olutokunbo Enoboifo (known also as “Lulu”) is said to have met Ibori as he wandered the streets of London engaging in menial jobs and petty crimes. At the time, Ibori was known to be a cab driver in London and was also engaged in his own criminal career, which includes credit card fraud and stealing of building materials at Wickes Home Improvement Store in London, leading to his conviction in the UK in the 1990s. When Ibori became a governor in Nigeria, he invited his old friend Enaboifo over, but knowing his criminal background was likely to be a liability, he did not formally appoint him to a public office. Instead, Enaboifo became one of his regular conduits for money laundering

No! that is not what i am saying. My piont is that there is something most Nigerian writers, critics and other concern Nigerians fail to grasp in this phenomenon called corruption. And it is that, unworthy people has always been part of any political system any where around the world. On the other hand, history has provided us with too many evidence from different part of the globe on how multinational companies shady practices, political corruptions, rich countries protectionist anti trust laws, discriminating bidding practices and illegal money laundry activities has contributed to our present level of civilization. These things are contributory drivers of industrialization or what ever name you can call it. You can not eliminate them from the system/society. One way or the other they fit in the web of economic development. For instance the American way of life we are trying to imitate today was built by Irish, Italian and Jewish immigrants, who refused to continue living in poverty, in slumps ,in rat infected areas as Harlem and Brooklyn(at the time). They aggressively result to making money by any means necessary- so as to find a better life for themselves. This resulted in the rise in organize criminal activities and hence the Mafia. They made a lot of money through their illegal activities, and as their businesses became bigger, they consolidate their internal structure and embrace politics. After that they began to make this money clean- by investing in legitimate businesses and real estates. Hence the emergence of what you know today as Wall Street( most of the businesses traded there are owned by the great grand children of these people). Also, all those posh areas in central park Manhattan in New York and the casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic city was built by these people. Also go back in history, and trace the background of all American presidents from the 1920s till date- they have got ties with unworthy men and business associates. From F.D Roosevelt( linked to Tammany Hall racketeering n political corruption via Jimmy Hienz), Lyndon Johnson(FBI Edgar Hoovers Connection with the mafia), John F Kennedy( Father was a bootlegger in Chicago- his death was even linked to the mob and FBI), Pres Nixon, Republican Senator McCain(Wife parents riches linked to the heydays of prohibition in america), even Clinton not to talk of our newly found mentor Obama- who started his political career in a state whose political structure has been corrupted long before he was born by the notorious Billionaire ALphonse Capone a.k.a Al Capone(there are also stories of Obamas relationship with corrupt rich Jews). So readers, the Nigerian case is not different. My advice will be for us to look for ways to use corruption to facilitate economic growth and development- for we can not stop it. Instead we can make something creative with it. or what do you think? In America- sometimes, the CIA, and other government agencies work with organize crime bosses and mobsters to achieve an objective that will be of national interest. For example the CIA invasion of Cuba which was specifically aimed at removing the government of Fidel Castro was hatched by american billionaire mobsters who were angry with Castro over the nationalization of their cuban businesses. Also the successful invasion and defeat of Italy under Benito Mussolini during WW11 was only made possible with the help of corrupt italian billionaire business men- this was only made possible for the US after an agreement was reached with Lucky Luciano( a mobster and an italian american business man based in the states). Nigerians and our leaders should think and stop shouting criminals in government everyday. Such kindergarten reasoning is far from the level of intelligence required to attain leadership in world affairs.
