Mental and psychological disorders are medical conditions which results from the way we think, feel or behave. They are basically 2 groups; neurosis and psychosis type. The neurosis type includes Anxiety, phobia, sleep disorders, mild depression, somatization etc while the psychosis group include severe depression, schizophrenia, delusional disorders...
Anyone could develop these mental conditions , cuts across children and adults.
Conditions managed by psychiatrists include autism, conduct disorders, personality disorder, seizures, sleep disorder, substance and drug abuse, dementia, learning disorders, pregnancy related psychiatric disorders to mention a few common ones.

Please Doc. I day Dream alot and most times lots of Good fantasies come into my head and it always look real, but I tend not to Apply it or do anything towards it. I don't get sick. Don't smoke, drink ones in a month. Am afraid that this fantasies could lead to something else. Please is anything wrong with me?

Sometimes it's more when we undergo increased stress or major Anxiety provoking events. Nothing to worry about cos it's only a normal physiological event. As long as you sleep well @ night you are fine.

I mean day dreaming.... Am fully awake but fantasies take over, sometimes talking to myself

@nayandupu , what are the chances of rehabilitating a drug addict in a mental hospital ( say Uselu in Edo state) ? The person in question when he is with outsiders, he relates normally with them that people may get to like him but in the family, he is something else, always harassing the mother for money. He is always unkempt, literally has no shame again, he can go any extreme to beg people for money, and these are people who if he had lived well( a graduate) he would be d one helping them.
He is a smooth liar, my fear is that while in Uselu, he may deceive the doctors that he is now normal (he has deceived many pastors, family friends that have volunteered to help) and after his release, he still goes back to drugs

That's a typical presentation of a drug or substance abuse, gradually he may become disinhibited depending on the substance he is abusing and may become a danger to himself or people around him. Neglect of personal hygiene in someone who used to care about it, these are subtle signs that he may be developing psychosis and losing touch with reality. Take him to a psychiatric Hospital close to you and lay these complaints. I must warn you that most times people abusing drugs wld not willing come in for treatment, so you shld expect some or alot of resistance particularly because he would deny having any problem.

Thank you, arrangement is been made to take him to Uselu. This is someone who while growing up had a good prospect. He used to cut all his hairs (bololo hairstyle), but these days, he keeps an unkempt afro, cos I believe he would rather use the money to do drugs than spend it on himself. The few clothes he has now are bought by his parents and JUNIOR ones at least to make him look presentable. About taking him there, what he normally does is when he is soo low on cash, he will start confessing telling whoever cares to listen that he is an addict, that he has changed(has said that uncountable times), that the family should help him out but once he has been given money, he would disappear. Taking him to Uselu is the last attempt the family has decided to take and I hope it works out for them. Also, he has been told indirectly about going to a rehab home, he agreed(he always agrees when he is in need of money/supply), but if he later rescinds, plan B is to involve plain policemen to help bundling him there.

He started with normal cigarette, then hemp. Just last week in one of his confessional bouts, he said he was introduced to Heroine/Cocaine in 2011. I have friends that are into hemp, but they are very much ok, some married with lovely family

Abuse of psychoactive substances ranging from alcohol, solvents,cocaine, codeine in cough syrups, heroine etc usually are capable of causing other psychiatric illness if not addressed. For a rehab of a drug case to be effective, it has to last a minimum of 3 months in a confined environment. Most govt psychiatric facilities do this and depending on the findings at presentation , the patients may even stay longer in hosp n rehab centres.

Psychiatric or mental illness are not caused by a single aetiological factor usually a combination. Some people already have genetic vulnerability which makes them develop problems while "others appear to get away''. Same reason why alcohol which is abused everywhere becomes a problem for another person.

Doc. please I need help.,. I think and worry alot sometime over little or less meaning things, things anybody can let go easily. it's affecting my choice of better halve, I chat and discuss within myself as if two people lives in me, it's affecting my physique. please what should I do

Do you hear voices while Awake?
Can you elaborate of these feeling of 2 persons living with You?
Have people around noticed any strange behaviour?
The issue about worrying can be addressed with psychotherapy and medications, but Anxiety may be coexisting with other mental illness.
You may need to see a specialist so you can be properly assessed and examined.

Yes, diagnosis was made by a psychiatrist.
No previous history of mental illness. None in the family either (at least nuclear and immediate extended)
It's been close to 4 months. Bodily symptoms wanes so well for days and even weeks sometimes that it's hard to recall, then suddenly comes up again but not as bad as initial episodes.

Are you currently on Medications? If yes, u need to continue on the medications For a longer period.
You would also benefit from psychotherapy sessions so see your doctor for this sessions.

There are several reasons why people don't sleep well at night.
Ranging from medical conditions to somatic disorder.
There are various types of sleep disorders and that determines what drugs would work best.
Until other causes of poor sleep have been ruled out then we can now say use this medication or recommend sleep therapy.
As a professional it's unethical to just prescribe drugs without proper history, examination or via this Medium. Thanks for your understanding.
