Great Nairalanders please I am appealing for your help to assist a blind little kid in Lagos.

It’s a bit of a long story, but I will try and cut it down to make it easy to read

The little boy is 4 years old and his parents attend my mums church in Lagos.

He wasn’t born blind, but when he was a few months old developed an eye problem which unfortunately due to lack of funds; Father is hustling as a washerman (came to Lagos as a house help) and other odd jobs that he can find & mother is a housewife and also due to ignorance, they didn’t take the child to hospital until it was too late.

LUTH attempted surgery (A good Samaritan who they don’t know paid for the surgery) but unfortunately it was unsuccessful and the little boy is now blind. The parents no longer take the child to hospital due to funds, plus the fact that they have been told that nothing more can be done.

I have his pictures and his parents information/contact details which I am happy to give out as required for verification.

Currently his parents no longer take him to church/out because people laugh at them, which is really sad for this poor innocent boy.

Please whatever anyone can do for this little boy, no matter what it is, I am appealing to you to please assist.
His parents need empowering and the little boy needs to be schooled so that he is able to fend for himself and become useful to himself and the society in spite of his disabilities.

Please I am appealing for your assistance. Please lets help give this boy some hope.

Empower the father and mother. The boy is there a budget for the operation. You didn't say.

I am not in Nigeria, thats why I didnt put a phone number
However I am more than willing for the case to be verified, hence the reason why I tagged some people who have done this before
I dont know if anything can still be done to restore his sight, my understanding from the parents is that LUTH cant do anymore.

I think I understand it better now. The OP is just a concerned neigbour who wants people to reach out to the family. Its not like the family is asking for help for the boy. But OP believes that if their standard of living is improved, it will reflect on the boy positively.

Fair enough.

For the boy's sake, it's a worthwhile project. If God gives me grace, I will be a part of this too.

The reference to his job was to give the lowdown of the dads financial capability
Most of these issues also stemmed from the familiys lack of finance.
His parents look after him as much as they can within their capability
His disability will require special schools and equipment, something his parents cant afford.
Hence the reason for this thread.

Special School is the main prioroty, but his parents cant afford it.
I also mentioned you becasue you will probably know which schools are available
I did a google search and only the Pacelli school of the blind came up. I was thinking tha tthere may be other schools but are just not on the internet.

Both really. If his parents are equiped then the little boy can have a better standard of living and my thoughts are being so young, it will be easier to make the changes in his life and be able to adapt to the disbility easier than if he gets older.

2 things or maybe 3 things are of importance to this clarion call.

1. The parents need to be empowered.
2. Getting the boy a eye specialist to actually confirm the true state of the eyes. Before we start talking about blind school. The boy's eyes should not just go like that, haba.

That will inform our actions.

I believe we have doctors on Nairaland. Where are they?
