DSS Not Interfering In Rivers Tribunal – APC by missbehave247(m): 3:19am On Jul 17, 2015
The All Progressives Congress on Thursday dismissed an allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party that the Department of State Services was interfering in electoral matters before the Rivers State Election Petitions Tribunal.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the APC described the allegation as “a futile attempt by the PDP to pull the wool over the eyes of Nigerians.”

The PDP had, on Wednesday, alleged that the Director-General, DSS, Mr. Lawal Daura, was using his office to interfere in electoral matters currently before some election petitions tribunals.

The party further alleged that Daura had even invited some security chiefs and some members of the tribunals with the aim of interrogating them.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, stated these at a press briefing in Abuja.

But the APC explained that the invitation of some officials of the Rivers State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission was prompted by a petition to the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General, DSS, by the APC that the INEC officials were colluding with the PDP to deny the APC access to key documents used for the last governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.

Also contained in the petition, the APC said, was the allegation that some directors at the INEC head office in Abuja had been trying to deny the APC access to some documents used for the elections. This, the party said, was against the directive of the INEC Chairman that the INEC officials should promptly release the documents.

The APC also said that the IG had directed, upon the receipt of the APC petition, that the matter be investigated and that the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State should be invited.

Those who were named in the APC’s petition to the security agencies, the statement said, included the Rivers State REC, Mrs. Gesila Khan; the Administrative Secretary, Mr. Obijuru Royson; Head of Operations Department, Bocco Ekong; and Legal Officer, Nancy Gaffar.

The statement read, ‘’Therefore, the PDP’s wolf crying over a conspiracy it orchestrated with the Rivers INEC to deny the APC access to documents used for the said elections amounts to barefaced lies and a clear attempt at distorting facts.

“These persistent refusals to release the documents are happening despite a valid order from the tribunal, and a clear violation of Section 77 (1) and (2) and other provisions of the Electoral Act.

“In addition, there is also a deliberate effort by the conspirators (Rivers INEC and the PDP) to destroy the documents so as not to allow the APC to have access to them, and then report their loss to the police. One of such cases was filed on June 29 at the Akinima Police Station in the Ahoada-West area.”

The party accused the PDP of doing everything possible to sabotage the search for the truth, and pointing accusing fingers to deceive the unsuspecting public.

It added, “Having willfully used the security agencies as a tool to rig elections, harass the opposition and tamper with evidence in all its 16 years of shame in office, the PDP now believes the APC will do the same.

“That is wrong, because the APC is a party founded on the rule of law. As far as we in the APC are concerned, let the lawful procedures be followed and let the truth prevail in the cases before the various election petitions tribunals across the country.”

Wait.

Are we talking about the same DSS that was used by the PDP to intimidate other candidates in Jonathan's time?Karma has a warped sense of humor.

Rivers State, is too strategically important to be left in the hands of a looter, that is a by product of the PDP. PDP is the epitome of corruption, and Wike will loot Rivers until the State will not be able to breathe again.

Hopefully, the Tribunal should do the needful and the right thing by kicking Wike out. Today's Nigeria have no time for incurable kleptomaniacs like Wike, who happens to be the puppet and his puppeteers the PDP.

Nigeria vows to shut down Radio Biafra

Many ethnic Igbos feel Nigeria's central government is not representing their interest

Nigeria's government has vowed to shut down an illegal radio station operated by people sympathetic to the breakaway state of Biafra.

The ministry of information said it has "successfully jammed the signals" of the station.

However, the BBC's Abdussalam Ahmed in Enugu says Radio Biafara is still broadcasting.

It is not clear where it is based but it mainly broadcasts to the Igbo-speaking south-east of the country.

The first republic of Biafra declared its independence from Nigeria in May 1967, but was eventually defeated after a three-year civil war that cost more than one million lives.

Our correspondent says the station hosts phone-in programmes with listeners calling to talk about issues affecting their region and their desire to break away from Nigeria.

It also attacks and ridicules President Muhammadu Buhari and other government officials.

Although the Biafra uprising was quelled by the military, a group called the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra (Massob) has attracted the support many young people in the region.

They feel they have been discriminated against by those in power in Abuja and demand independence.

Several of their leaders and sympathisers have been detained by authorities and accused of treason.
Biafra lives forever.

Tribunals do not kick people out...they only cancel or accept that the elections were reasonably free and fair..and if the elections is to be cancelled and a fresh one conducted Wike will surely beat Dakuku..unless APC puts its federal power to use.
