Many view marketing as selling of goods and services. Others see it as persuading people to buy one's product. Marketing can rather be described as the totality of all the processes involved in the development, offering and getting paid for a product.

CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF MARKETING (BRITISH) defined marketing as- the management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying costumers' needs profitably.

If what is being done is not geared towards satisfying costumers' needs, it is not marketing. It is about identifying the need, making it available and offering it (profitably) to the customer.
