Lagos Lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa has filed a suit before a Federal High Court in Lagos seeking an order of the court declaring Amina Zakari's position as acting chairman of INEC illegal and unconstitutional and for her to vacate the office. Mr. Adegboruwa is also seeking an order the court that she should be restrained from presiding over any election in Nigeria including the governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi states. Zakari's tenure as INEC commissioner ended yesterday July 21st.The only way she can continue to work at INEC is for the dullard to forward her name to the NASS for confirmation as the substantive INEC chairman.The 1999 constitution guarantees the independence of the electoral body and does the give the president the power to appoint INEC boss even on interim capacity without parliamentary approval. 1 Like |
