If Alex Badeh's claim that Nigeria's military was badly funded in the last 3 or so years, it is pertinent he explain what happened to the trillions of Naira proposed for funding security from 2012 to 2015 by the regime he served and approved by the National Assembly for the same purpose.

Badeh also need to explain why he remained mute, refusing to cry out and tell the world this belated confession for all the period people were being killed callously. In case he acted on the knowledge he is now sharing generously with the public, he need to say what it was he did precisely to solve the problem. Even more important, he should explain why sophisticated military hardware belonging to the Nigeria Army ended up in the hands of the insurgent. Certainly, auditing military hardware to track movement of weapons was not, is not and will never be the sophisticated business Badeh intended to make it with his allegation of "fifth columnists" as the source of Nigeria Army's dismal response to the war. At different times he came out to defend GEJ's actions on the war against insurgency.

On this wall, I once wrote the lamentation of a former Kaduna State Commissioner of Police who, out of frustration went on BBC telling the world how with tens of commands under his watch, he operated without a single functional patrol vehicle and had to run cap in hand to the Governor for funds to hire buses from motor park each time he had to respond to a security situation. That was the year security budget hit N982bn or there about, from where it hit the trillion Naira mark and refused to mellow down even when there was no corresponding value added to the Nigerian system.

I think, rather than remain tied to an indicting claim of faceles fifth columnists, Badeh could do better trying to link rumours of unexplained and very stupendous wealth of Army Generals under GEJ which made them owners of choicest properties within and without Nigeria. He may find his answers within the protruding bellies of his colleagues - an embarrassing situation that should qualify them for both pre- and post-natal care. Unless of course, Badeh was referring to the Service Chiefs as the "fifth columnists" whose actions put a wedge between Nigeria and success in the war against insurgency, certainly he need to do better than this "mock" examination when it's time for the final examination otherwise, he will spend a long time reviewing his notes trying to put the missing links in this drama in the privacy of his cell.

In this, "fifth columnist" is hereby discharged and acquitted.
