A post by a friend. Think it is worth reading:

CLASSLESS SOCIETY: IMPOSSIBLE (Matthew 26:11); CAPITALISM WITH CHECKS: POSSIBLE. (Sorry I could not abridge this: you may read in phases)
"The oppressors of the Nigeria masses are not just Hausas or Yorubas. In the North, the real hausas are dominated. Do your research. The fate of Nigerian masses has no religious or ethnic colourations. Poverty is poverty and it has no tribe nor religion. The Nigerian vulturistic bourgeois class cuts across most of the ethnic nationalities." --Oersted Esiaga
Oersted Esiaga, a Marxist held these views in reaction to the possibilities of the re-emergence of the Republic of Biafra
My Reactions:
Class!!!! Class!!!! Class!!!!. Are you building God's society on earth? Which society is never stratified? What we seek is to have a country with the federating untis possessing substantive rights to self determination. Federating units could be a summation of conesenting ethnic groups. Some recent scholars have shown that on the basis of consenting ethnic groups or of such groups with common ancestary, Nigeria could be built into 10 to 12 federating units. What we seek is to expire the rentier state, allay the resource curse syndrome and have prebendalism fizzled out by creating a country where though there be classes, it would be up to the citizenry to switch classes based on work. "Yes we can!"
In Nigeria, our main misfortune was that the reality of capitalism befell us off the heels of our adoption of a state structure which appeared unsuitable to it--where central control made capitalism become an open sessame for primitive accumulation by a prebendal class that was readily afforded exclusive right to an all-determining black gold and its associated economies.
We therefore are midwifing capitalism on a faulty baseline and with serious in situ antithesis to it such as: the Land Use Act; the usurpation of both the Exclusive and Concurrent lists by the central government and other state processes thereby breeding an absolute and progressive downline central influence unto the lowest level making that level prostrate and our democracy ludicrous.
The consequent absence of counteractive and counterbalancing systemic checks absent by the very structuring of our polity has made the unfettered democracy needed for the thriving of civilized capitalism in our climes impossible and rather caused whatever we dub our demodracy to be no better than paperwork.
Even Arochukwu Ogbonna Paul, a sworn Marxist has recognized that all capitalism needs is Checks!!! Checks!!!! Checks!!!!! Federalism of the model of the 1960s or even some improvement on same would have provided those checks as a usurping FG sheds more and more responsibilities to lower tiers and their communities of people to become active players and relevant participants in the economy. The implicit production-based economy created would bridle the boldness of corruption, ameliorate rent-seeking and begin to progresively whittle down the very walls of a rentier state and the resource curse of black gold would subsequently be allayed. That way we could substantively and sustainably create the surplus values needed for social provisionism having expired the pseudo-provisionism of a rentier state. This emergent competitive state would even AOP has recognized in other fora generate an elite class whose level of responsibility would come within saner limits.
I said to you yesterday, Oersted that Communists are not Christians, but you asseretd that you were a Christian and Communist. Well, I am a strong believer in Christianity and for same reason do not believe in a classless society: earth's governments cannot grant you that. (Mathew 26:11)
