A 26-year-old lady, Morufa Alagbala, who went missing for some days, has been found dead inside a well in the Omitoro, Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

It will be recalled that the family had reported
Morufa missing last Tuesday at the Igbogbo Police
Division, when her whereabouts were not known.

DAILY POST gathered that her body was discovered
when some plumbers came to work on the well in
her resident at Babatunde Aina Street.

The deceased’s elder sister disclosed that although
Morufa has had a history of mental illness, her death was quite appalling, adding that the deceased had severally escaped from home in the past but she usually returned after some hours.

She said, “On Tuesday, when I noticed my sister
wasn’t home, I checked around the neighborhood
and didn’t find her. I concluded it was one of her
usual way of straying from home; but she would
always return. The mental imbalance made her get
ferocious and act oddly sometimes.

“There was a period she became too aggressive, and struck me on the head. We had been managing her condition until that Tuesday when she went missing,” the deceased’s sister recounted.

“On Thursday,” she continued, “we had invited some plumbers to come to fix a problem with our well, and they complained that the water reeked badly. According to the plumbers, the whiff emanating from the well was rather too stench to be ordinary.

“They took a closer look and found that a dead body
was on the surface, floating. That was how Morufa’s
corpse was discovered.

“Whenever she had one of her unstable mental
occurrences, I used to take her to a psychiatric
hospital in Yaba for treatment. But the last time we
went, they were on strike, although, she was given
some medications.

“She could not marry or go to school because of the
disorder.

“So when she was not found, we reported at the
police station. Her death was unexpected and so
shocking, but we believe it is the will of God,” she
sobbed. It has been gathered that men of the Lagos State Fire Service were in the house to remove the corpse from the well.

The Director of the Service, Dr Razak Fadipe, who
confirmed the incident, said, “From all indications,
the lady accidentally fell and got trapped inside the
well. It was about 120 feet deep. She was recovered
dead by firefighters from the Ikorodu Fire Station.”

But we need a secure mental institution in Nigeria, a place where those suffering from mental illness can be best cared for.
Its alarming the number of mad people walking the streets rather than being in the hands of experts.
The likes of Tinubu and Buhari should be locked up in secure mental institution.
